You should participate in RCIA in the parish where you worship or will be worshipping. You are being initiatied not only into the Church but into a community of believers. Part of RCIA is to become involved in parish life and if you are not going to be part of that parish then an important component of RCIA is missing. It is not just attending classes as if it were school. It is an immersion into the life of the parish and the Church. Now you could be asking for recommendations for good parishes in Dallas that you can become a member of and join RCIA. That is a better way to look at it.

Thank you Joannm, That is good advise; but we are having trouble finding that place. We watch EWTN and everything in us says JOIN! Then we visit a local parish and everything in us says " your faith might not be able to withstand this terrible place". We could tell you some stories that would curl your hair. We used to want a parish with beautiful Liturgy, devout people, challenging sermons, near to us. Now we just want one that won’t hurt us.

Greetings refugio,

I am at St. Luke’s in Irving and we just had the sixth session of our RCIA last evening. I do not know if Irving is doable from where you are in Dallas but if so, check us out on the web at stlukeirving.org/index.html

The web site is horrid but the church is beautiful and even though we only have NO Masses, they are very well done (IMO). Our RCIA director is an excellant teacher who can make the most complex concepts snap into place and seem so obvious you wonder how you ever missed it.

I am a recently returned Catholic, away from the Church for over 30 yrs and am taking RCIA as a means of relearnig/reminding myself of all I have forgotten/missed. My wife is also attending with the possability of converting.

We also have Bible study every Sun at 9:15 that I have been going to and has been a great help.

The fact that you have not been to the first six classes of RCIA should not hinder you a great deal as most of the people who go take notes and can go over the previous stuff with you to get you up to speed.

I would ask the new pastor at Mater Dei in Dallas (a Fraternity of Saint Peter Parish) about being instructed. You won’t get any of the hair curling experiences with them and you’ll definitely be challenged by the sermons, inspired by the beauty of the liturgy and the Church itself and the reverence. You’ll meet inspiring Priests, receive solid spiritual advice in the confessional etc.

Most traditional Catholic Priests do not do the RCIA process that I know of. Instead they’ll give you appropriate material to read, attend classes, etc. I’m not sure how that goes in Dallas though. Every place is different.
