Need Help...Philosophical Thesis

Hi,

I’m going to make a thesis in philosophy and I want the theme to be combating errors in philosophy in the perspective of a catholic believer. Can anyone give a suggestion?

Donald de Marco and Benjamin Wiker’s Architects of the Culture of Death; and

Kennedy, Brown, and Snyder’s Images of the Human: The Philosophy of the Human Person in a Religious Context.
 
First, welcome to the Forums, Markdoom.

Second, be sure to research other areas of this website for leads.

Third, for what it is worth, as I have only a BS in Accountancy, I would list the top 10 or so tenents of Catholic philosophy and then show how other philosophers interpreted those points in ways that are inconsistent with the Catholic tennets.

It seems that most Catholics make reference to Bible passages while most other philosophers avoid the Bible as a basis for their positions.

I would be interested in reading such a comparison.
 
Full disclosure- I am not yet Catholic and hold no university degree…I’ll confine myself to recommending the works of others.
Edward Feser’s The Last Superstition directly engages atheism and points to a lot of perceived errors. Lots of footnotes, so if something catches your eye you can easily find a more academic treatment.
Specifically, his discussion of Aristotle’s philosophy of causation, and how later, secular philosophy abandoned it, would be a good place to start. You could shore it up with Gilson’s From Aristotle to Darwin and Back Again.

First, accept the suggestion in the first reply, and read Adler’s book.

Then read the New Testament. There is a passage in there where Jesus advises someone not to whine about the splinter in another’s eye, without first removing the 2x4 from his own.

Whatever you write, title it, “Why the pot is absolutely certain that the kettle is black.”

Thank You for all your reply.
I had read Adler’s book last December.
My initial thought was about criticizing Marx’s concept of labor
in favor of Church’s teachings. However I abandoned that idea
because there were Church documents issued in the past concerning Marx and his concept of labor.
