Hello!!

This year I am Coordinating our Churches “Saints and Sweets”, trunk or treating.

Can you please give me ideas what kind of games you would like to see? Snack Ideas?

We are looking at about 300-400 people.

Please help. This is my first big responsibility given to me at my church. I really want to make it great.

Love,
Jillian

What about medals of the Saints as a none sweet item? Also, prayer cards that feature many of the Saints.

As for treats: Sure there is the candy option. But there are also things like small packages of crackers, pretzels, raisins, nuts and cookies. Of course serving things like apple cider, popcorn, apples, bananas and oranges would go well too. Oh, and you could serve grapes too.

If you are looking for basic activities for kids get a load of popcorn popped up, have some marshmallow whip on hand or syrup and have them make popcorn balls. It makes a nice mess, entertains the little ones while they have permission to make that mess.

Other activities: Bobbing for apples, best costume (who does the best saint costume?), sticking our hands in icky bowls of icky things while blind folded and having people guess what it “really is.” (Peeled grapes make great eyeballs, spaghetti noodles are wonderful worms, fuzzy balls make great spiders)

So anyway, let your imagination role and stick to a theme. If you don’t want spooky work on games that identify the Saints and Popes. Relax and have fun.

If you do something like this, you’ll really want a handwashing station or 2! 🙂

Simple crafts. Non edibles such as home-made play doh or silly putty. Here’s the super-simple silly putty recipe.

1 cup white glue
1 cup liquid starch
food coloring (optional)

Mix together until the liquid starch is absorbed into the glue and form into a ball.
Relax and have fun.
I second this idea. You’ll find that playing with a big tub of silly putty is very relaxing. 😉

If yore having that many people, chances are very good that there will be some kids with allergies. It’s impossible to have treats that are allergy safe for everyone, but it would be a really good thing if you could avoid at least the ones that contain peanuts or tree nuts OR are processed in a facility that processes them.

My CCD kids love the little tschokes (sp?) from Oriental Trading Company (orientaltrading.com) which can be quite inexpensive. They still love OT’s version of Silly Bands, which come in the shape if a cross, angel, fish, etc.

Bless you for taking on this responsibility.
