Hi, until some time ago… I did not follow God as religiously and faithfully as I should. So lately a lot of things happened with me, for instance, I lost track of life. I felt like someone else or something else as driving my life. I felt like I had no control. Then I started missing important things in my life, like, track of time: wouldn’t do my school work; I would forget important dates (birthdays, appointments, such things).

When I realised that, I just thought, you know I wasn’t really living for God was I? Maybe it’s just God trying to call me back to spiritual life. But here comes my concern: Whenever I pray too much or whenever I feel close to God or actually meditation in God, I feel SUFFOCATED, IRRITABLE, UNCOMFORTABLE, OVERWHELMED. Don’t know what to do. HELP?

Go to confession, and receive the Eucharist at Mass this Sunday.

The consequences of sin are keeping you at the level you’re at.

The grace received in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist, will bring you peace and begin your spiritual journey toward union with God.

It sounds like Satan was controlling your life for a time. As for your question I’m going to guess that perhaps you’ve done some things in life that you’ve forgotten about but are still requiring confessing. I’ve more recently confessed some terrible things I did early in life which for whatever reason (forgetting, not believing I was culpable, etc.) I had never confessed before, and I’ll tell you the feeling to get it off your chest is unlike anything that can be described. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is important as well as deep examination of conscience and frequent confession when needed. And definitely receive Holy Communion whenever possible; ie. when not in mortal sin. I’ll say a prayer for you… Hail Mary… :gopray2:

I notice you had an interesting choice of words. You didn’t just say, “When I pray…I feel”. You said, “When I pray too much.…I feel…”

What do you mean by “too much”?

hi, been there myself friend, as has been posted-confession hits the re-start button/ it really works…a good sacramental life makes a good prayer life…

meanwhile, God is no monster; i have not heard the phrase, monster god on the forum-so my context is strictly in this paragraph-so…what an irony you speak-that what should be peace-is suffocating…you want the opposite affect…a breath-reminds me when Jesus, in the gospels, breaths on the apostles…wind is invisible…as though a man were a sail-catching on course of life-an invisible wind-again, that invisible thing you seek and discern-is not a monster god…one day soon, as the sacraments begin their work of mercy…your soul will respond-and Jesus will breath on you-words take a breath-if you think about it…he will say to you-there is divine love-and “I am it.” your sails unfolded, then, God will find you…You will discover a new identity…a good sacramental life makes a good prayer life…

Examine your conscience and make a good Confession.

The Enemy will do all in his power to keep you from the Sacramental life. Expect to experience temptations and other spiritual attacks as you grow in holiness. However, don’t be afraid of Old Scratch. He’s a defeated foe and we all know that demons are cowards who flee from a soul in state of grace.

Thanks. What you said is really helpful. I should try and do that this Sunday.
Thanks

By that I mean what I say… hehehe…
I like to pray long enough that I feel at peace with my prayer. So If need be I can spend a whole morning, afternoon praying.

I have a method where a read random quotes for the bible and depending on the verses I read, I’d keep reading and reading…

Thank you very much, I should prepare a confession, It seems like this should be my next step, as many of you are advising me to do so.

Yes, go to Confession. 🙂 All that everyone else said.

Sometimes, when I’m stressing during prayer, or feeling uncomfortable, I try to remember that it might be time to pray harder. Perhaps turn to Mary for help, or St. Michael the Archangel. I ask them to help me pray, or to protect me.

Or maybe you need to build your prayer muscles. Are you attempting long prayer or intense prayer without working up to it? Maybe some people can jump right in without practice and pray intensely, but I can’t. Pray more often, but shorter prayers.

Hello.

Here is a prayer for you:
Saint Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109)
O Lord, my God, teach my heart this day where and how to see you, where and how to find you. You have made me and remade me, and you have bestowed on me all the good things I possess, and still I do not know you. I have not yet done that for which I was made. Teach me to seek you, for I cannot seek you unless you teach me, or find you unless you show yourself to me. Let me seek you in my desire; let me desire you in my seeking. Let me find you by loving you; let me love you when I find you.
What has helped me is therapy plus trying to be a better Catholic. I don’t know what the answer is for you. Jesus did say knock and the door will be answered, or something like that.

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing these feelings. You are in my prayers.

Confession is always a good idea, too.

Please note this is all just my opinion and to take what you like and leave the rest.
