This saying of Jesus (from the NAB) is very puzzling. Why does Jesus not accept praise from men? and, why are we trying to hard, in Catholic worship, to give him praise?
I believe that, given the full context of the chapter, He’s speaking about how His glory comes from the Father and not from men. In a later verse He comments on how the people are seeking glory from each other and not from God. I believe it’s a contrast to that. At most it’s also a comment on how they are not believing Him.
