Hi everyone, I’m asking for your help. I’ve been recently assigned to do a large research paper. I’m taking biotechnology and so I have chosen to do my topic ( A persuasive essay) on religion vs. science. I’ve chose to focus my attention on the catholic church (of course) and it’s views on cloning, stem cells etc. I need tons of info though, and my library seems to be lacking in any info that supports the religious viewpoint. Do any of you know any good links to websites etc, that can help me in my search?

Thanks in advance!!!

Hey sarchophagus,

I hope you’ll find in your research that there is no real contradiction in these areas between the Catholic and reputable scientific perspective. To get a great explanation of the church’s viewpoint, you should read, in its entirety, the document “Donum Vitae” (The Gift of Life) at nccbuscc.org/prolife/tdocs/donumvitae.htm. In addition, Fr. Tad Pacholczyk is the leading Catholic authority on these subjects. He holds a PhD in neuroscience, so this guy, a devout Catholic, sure is one who has seen that both faith and science are compatible. You can read his ten myths about stem cell research here: catholicchurchnh.org/docs/doc315.pdf#search=‘Fr.%20Tad%20stem%20cell’

This site, freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1362168/posts has a facts section about the topics you mentioned and a realplayer video of Fr. Tad speaking on the subject. Hope this helped.

If you can, you might want to pick up a copy of John Paul II’s autobiography, Witness to Hope. JP very much saw the complementary relationship between science and religion, and the book goes into nice detail about the many relationships JP had with scientists.
