Need help with Roman's 7:13-23

:confused: hi i think i know what St Paul is saying in these verses… but i am unsure .is he describing concupiscene?or is writing as if he is in a state of sin?or writing as one who has yet to recieve the grace of God?i think it is the later case.thanks for your replies in advance i will be back to check out any posts later today.

It is excellent and thoroughly Catholic. Anyway, here is what I found regarding Rom. 7:13-23:

It is cross-referenced in the Catechism in paragraph #1963: “According to Christian tradition, the Law is holy, spiritual, and good,(14) yet still imperfect. Like a tutor(15) it shows what must be done, but does not of itself give the strength, the grace of the Spirit, to fulfill it. Because of sin, which it cannot remove, it remains a law of bondage. According to St. Paul, its special function is to denounce and disclose sin, which constitutes a “law of concupiscence” in the human heart.(16) However, the Law remains the first stage on the way to the kingdom. It prepares and disposes the chosen people and each Christian for conversion and faith in the Savior God. It provides a teaching which endures for ever, like the Word of God. (1997 Catechism of the Catholic Church 1963)”

It appears he is speaking of concupiscence. There is much more on this in the software.

Romans 7:19for i do not the good i wish but the evil that i do not wish,that i perform…that is how i felt when i was in a life of sin. i could not follow the law for i had not the strength to do so.it is only through the grace of God that i am able to do so now.

He is describing concupiscience, in fact older translations even use the term:
(KJV) Rom 7: 8But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
The Catholic DR says the same thing.
