My daughter is an OTR truck driver, her company allows her to take a “guest” on the truck. I would love to go, but am committing to four to six weeks on the road with her. The problem is that it will be pretty much impossible for me to make mass on Sunday while I’m on the road with her. So, I’m thinking that knowing that, I can’t go which is really disappointing. I know while I’m on the road with her, getting to church would be pretty much out of my control, but the decision to go on the trip is not out of my control. Does anyone see any way I can go? Thanks.
Carolyn

Have you spoken to your priest about a dispensation from Mass?
Mary.

:popcorn:Not sure.

Maybe you could speak to your parish priest and see if the circumstances would allow him to give you a dispensation during that time.
Mary.

You’ve probably already considered this, but If u can’t go on Sunday, could u maybe go Saturday evening?

But yeah, I would speak to your parish priest about it.
:popcorn:Not sure.
I hope u have enough popcorn for all of us, especially me! 😃

She can’t stop somewhere for an hour for Mass? She stops to sleep, doesn’t she?

Just wondering… would this time with your daughter be a real blessing? What I mean is, would you be hopeful that this time with her would draw you closer to one another (if you have been having disagreements)… would you get to really know each other as adults, share your thoughts, fears, philosophies, etc? Is this something “more” than just taking a “vacation?”

Does your daughter share your faith? Even if she does not, might she agree to attend Mass with you? If not, would she be agreeable to plan her upcoming route using maps, GPS, on-line information that would put you in locations where Masses are being held on weekends? Would she agree to look into that with you, so you could plan it together?

I agree with another poster, above, who said to consult with your Priest. Only you know what is in your heart, and you should share your feelings with someone who could help you.

Let me say this, though. I don’t know if it relates to you and your daughter, but if my parents would have accepted my offer(s) to spend productive time together, of really talking and really listening… life may have turned out differently for us. 🤷

May you be blessed.

While my daughter is not a practicing Catholic and does not attend Mass with me even when she is home that is not the reason I wouldn’t be able to attend Mass while we are on the road. She does not choose the routes she takes and even if we are close to a Church at Mass time, she can’t use her truck to drive me to Mass. There have been older threads that explain the problem for truckers. And chances are that wherever we are, we won’t be in walking distance of a Catholic Church at the right time. She knows how important Mass is to me, although she doesn’t understand it or agree with it, I think she would do what she could but it is highly unlikely it would work out.
My daughter and I are on good terms, and she does ask my opinion on some things, but yes, this would give us an opportunity to draw closer. I’m actually afraid that if I refuse to go because of this, it could strain our relationship but not to the point of not speaking.
There have been older threads that suggested that parishes located close to truck stops offer rides to truckers to help them attend Mass. If any parishes offer such ministries I don’t know how I would find them.

I guess u would have to research ahead of time. If u have any idea where u might be, or which trucks stops u might be at, on Saturday evening and/or Sunday, u could research (google) all the Catholic parishes in the areas, and then call them up and ask.

God bless! 🙂

It will take some advanced planning and extra cash, but try and find out where she will be on Saturday night and then find out where the nearest Catholic church is and their Mass times or you can ask around at the truck stops. You can then call a cab to take you where you want to go; if it is a nice slow Sunday morning, you may even get the driver to come back and get you in an hour or so. It sounds like a great trip and it would be a shame to miss it!

hi, as per below-there is a map…and handy regional mass times with catholic churches…tell me if that is helpful…
so you want to resolve a logistical problem-where ever you stop to take a rest/via a accessible map/while the times might be convenient enought/notice the google map/…thx

These are some good suggestions, but the fact remains that going into this, getting to Mass is iffy at best. I will talk to our priest about it. Thanks to all

Yeah, speaking to your priest is what I would say too.
