So I am pregnant with my 3rd child and have really been struggling with depression as I normally do during pregnancy and post partum. It mostly is based off of unhappiness with my body while pregnant and deep seeded insecurities I have from previous abusive relationships. I know it is very vain of me to be so concerned about my weight and appearance but I just can’t help it lately. My husband is very supportive and has even said that he is actually quite attracted to me when I’m pregnant but I just see these thin, beautiful women and long to look like that again and worry constantly how I’m going to lose the weight once the baby is here and how much I’m going to gain. I have never had an eating disorder but I workout very rigorously and diet when not pregnant. I was wondering if any moms out there had any books or inspirational saints that could help me with this struggle?

I was just recently pregnant with our fourth child myself and I know how you may be feeling. It’s not an easy task to grow a whole new person-you’re facing hormonal changes as well as lifestyle changes. Know that you are beautiful-you have life within you and this child is a precious gift which has been given you. The weight will come off in time-you said that you liked to exercise before the pregnancy-you can have fun with the little one once he/she arrives exercising together (stroller walks, infant and mother exercise videos, etc)

When I was feeling down, I asked St. Anne, Our Lady’s own mother, as well as Our Blessed Mother herself for their intercessory prayers. They knew what it was like to be with child, and all of the physical and emotional details that are involved. I cannot think of better role models and inspirations when times get rough.

May you have a healthy baby, and take care of yourself-you deserve it.
