Need LARGE Crucifix

Our parish is looking for a very large crucifix. The height needs to be 7 feet tall and realistic, not modern/abstract.

The latest one we have looked at is from Italy and $14,000.00. We need to stay way under that. Any and all help would be VERY appreciated! Thanks.

There are many places that sell items from churches that have been closed. There are at least a couple of the east coast. I do not have their specific addresss other than:

My first suggestion would be to write any diocese that is closing and selling a fairly large number of churches. You might just find a super nice older one that you can get for a song.

First, why would you think its Latin that will keep our children in the faith. Do you really think that people over the past 2000 years converted and then kept the faith because of Latin??
Second, I have no problem with Masses being allowed in Latin (if a universal indult is given) but it should not be up to the local priest to decide. It should be with the agreement of the priest and the congregation. Latin should not imposed on the congregation if they do not want it.

Out went the Baltimore Catechism, and in came “universal salvation, let’s not upset our Protestant brothers/sisters, how can we shy away from Catholic doctrine” type bunk. This has been fed to our children since the late 1960s. It has had a terrible effect on the Faith.

TLM communities tend to raise strong, devoted Roman Catholics who remain in the Faith due to the fact that they understand their faith. As to Latin: It is the official language of Holy Mother Church and has been so since the 4th century or earlier.

Our young will give their lives for a mystery, not a question mark!

I’m sorry I’ve digressed from the thread and don’t get me wrong on the issue of Latin. Each to his own. If its allowed I have no problem with that but it should not be imposed. I’m just saying people should not get hung up on Latin because it is not important. The Word of God is not in Latin. I was a Methodist and I do not speak or understand Latin. My conversion to the Catholic Faith had nothing to do with the language and my remaing strong in my Faith has nothing to do with the language. Latin seems to be important to some people so God Bless them. For me being steadfast in my faith Latin is irrelevant and at Mass it does not make the real presence (which I believe in absolutely ) any more real.
Forgive me if you think I’m attacking your point of view. I’m not. I just want you to see that there are different positions on the use of Latin.

Do you have any actual statistics, or is this your “gut feel” from your own (likely tiny) parish?

BTW, stick with the CCC. The BC is dated…

Good idea Bob. Pre: Have you checked out any local artisans, woodworkers, or sculptors, you know, like at a local arts market? Have you made a request in your bulletin or diocesan newspaper? You might be surprised to find that there is a local artist/craftsman who would do the work if your parish supplied the materials. Many of this folks would love the opportunity to praise God with their hands and probably would not even think of asking for a commission.

St.Peters in Memphis has a HUGE crucifix that another Church gave them it is realistic and BIG I think bigger than what you are asking for.Call them and ask.

Just wondering, but has your parish checked with the archdiocese? Probably has, but if not I am sure that the archdiocese would know where to get one.
