I need O. T. passages that God is a spirit and creation from no existing materials, thanks!

I don’t know where God = Spirit necessarily in the OT, but there are many references to the “Spirit of God” or the “Spirit of the LORD”

Gn 1:2 (tricky though, because the same word can also mean “wind” or “breath”); Gn 41:38; Nu 11 (see v. 29); 1 Sam 10:6-10; 2 Sam 23:2; Is 11:2.

Creation ex nihilo is tougher because there’s already “stuff” (water, earth) in Genesis 1 when God begins to create. Clearest imo is 2 Macc 7:28.

Less specific: Ps 33:6, 148:5.

Ex nihilo

Eph 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Re 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

If it is a thing, visible or invisible… God created it.

It is reconciled with Gen 1 by saying that verse one speaks of the creation of all the matter for heavens and earth. and then it was organized, etc.

----oops you need OT…

Jesus could teach that God is Spirit" because he knew how to read the scriptures properly. When he was confronted by the trap of a woman who was married seven times, he taught that there was no marriage in heaven using the same method of hermeneutic.

It is simple deduction and once you see it can get more evidence to support it.

First you have all the “Spirit of the Lord”'s as mentioned above. Which is also “Breath of the Lord” There is no mention of body of the Lord.

Then you have…

Nu 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

He’s not a man nor the son of man. This is important because those who challenge the Spiritual nature of God also usually claim he is just an exalted man.

See ex nihilo above. If God had a substance, it would have had to have been created, since all substances were created.

OK… Bereshit In the beginning… If anything pre-existed, then at the time God organized it, it was later than before it was organized, and it cannot be said then "“In the beginning”. This is validated by John 1.

Are there any Bible passages in O. T. that teach God is a spirit?

Thanks!
