…I have become more open to OB/GYN because this profession is severely warped with contraception and birth control pills for gyn health reasons, sterilizations, and artificial reproductive technologies. I am still discerning, but could see God leading me here because woman deserve better than that and the Institute’s Naprotechnology is a new paradiagm in Women’s Health that is superior to current methods and in line with Catholic teaching. If we are going to change the profession and you find God leading you here, see it as an opportunity for Christ to heal women and families through us.

Hooray! Someone who won’t just throw birth control pills at every problem!

I don’t see how a good woman married to a man who wants to use his profession to make the world better could be anything but proud of him, especially when he is filling a need like this one. 🙂

The only thing that would bother me is the time commitment. I would be hesitant about marrying a doctor because it is time intensive. Some specialities are worse than others. But, I guess it would depend on what kind of practice you settle into. My favorite ob had to retire from delivering babies due to a airborne latex allergy. He was in a solo practice and I just kept thinking it was real blessing for his wife when his hours became more reasonable.

Maybe one of the wives of the doctors could speak more on the time commitment.

Thanks for your replies everyone! I’m switching my major to Biology now as a pre-med. Maybe I won’t end up as an Ob/Gyn but that’s the plan now. This has really been a lesson in allowing God to lead though. (This time last year I was a conservative protestant going to be a veterinarian attending a big college up north. I’m now going to be a pre-med Catholic attending a smaller college closer to home. Scary huh?)

DailyBread you’ve described some of the biggest reasons why I’d want to get into the field. leonie you described one of my biggest worries (now). But obviously God is leading the way, so it’s got to turn out OK, right? Thanks for your prayers! God bless!
