Read the catechism if you wish to know the truth of Public Revelation, which includes Holy Scripture, the traditions of the apostles, and the Magisterium’s teachings.

Getting into heaven is not dependent on uttering some sacred password, but in doing the will of God.

Why would the mercy of Christ cause anyone any angst or worry or rob them of peace?

I don’t understand why you would freak out if God chooses to save somebody, when it should be cause for rejoicing.

Where in the bible does it say specifically muslims and non-Christians are absolutely barred from heaven? I missed that part. No one who does not know Jesus can deny Jesus. That is why he gave us Christians the command to evangelize. If someone does not know Jesus because we failed in our baptismal call to spread the gospel, at least part of that guilt will fall on us.

what the Church teaches is what the bible said, that we have assurance from Christ himself that he grants salvation to those who believe and are baptized in water and the Holy Spirit and do not apostasize from that belief, and who love him and demonstrate that love through obedience to his commandments. In speaking of who will lose salvation he was specifically preaching to those who could and did hear his voice, yet rejected him. He also made it very clear that gentiles–those at the time beyond the reach of his earthly ministry–were also called to salvation, and that he was establishing his Church for that purpose. So yes he can save anyone he wills who seeks his Father, even those who do not even know his name, yet seek because if the inborn hunger for God that resides in every human heart. What the Church never taught is that salvation outside the normal route of baptism is the norm or in any way guaranteed.

if you want a more complete explanation of Church teaching on salvation, research that topic here and on the CA homepage especially, then come back with specific questions and we will try to help. The Church has also never said definitively that any person or group is in hell.

CountrySteve,

Hi. This might help. Taken from the Catechism of the Catholic Church

#846
How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers? Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body:
Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.
#847
This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:
Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.
#848
“Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men.”

Also cited LG 14; Mk 16:16; Jn 3:5

God bless.

The proper answer, I think, is “We don’t really know.” God loves all His people, but if you reject His love, then He will give you what you want most - that is, not Him.

Let’s add a clarification: has the Muslim ever been told about Jesus, or has he never been taught?

In order to reject Jesus, the person must have been told about Jesus, but refused. In that case, I think, the chances of heaven are small. If the Muslim (or anyone) has never been told about Jesus, can they be blamed for not accepting Him?

Remember, that proclaiming Christ as Lord means more than simply saying it - it means living it. With that criterion, few Christians, let alone anyone else, probably makes is with little or no time in Purgatory.

At the end, we have to say: If he was taught, and refuses until death, then we cannot say that hope is not very great at all. If he was never taught, we can only hope on the mercy of God.

sow what you all are saying and what the Church is saying is that muslims who have not heard of Jesus go to heaven cause i believe that but what i thought it was saying is that you dont need Jesus to go to heaven and that startled me

Only God knows the state of a person’s soul at death.
However, we can say objectively that anyone denying Christ and dying unrepentent condemns themselves to Hell.

For example, all muslims know about Jesus. He is mentioned in the Koran. Muslims deny Jesus is God. The Koran states that he was created by God. The Koran states Jesus did not die on the Cross. If muslims die unrepentent then they go to hell.

If a man does not know Christ at all, how can he possibly be sent to Hell for that? He will be sent to Hell for other sins. Imagine a culture that has not even encountered Judaism, let alone Christianity. The Church teaches that even this isolated culture has the basic ideas of virtue inherent in all human beings, implanted by God: prudence, fortitude, temperance, and justice. Were a tribesman totally ignorant of Christ to be prudent, courageous, moderate, and just according to the ways of the conscience, there is no doubt that God would save that person in His mercy.

Ignorance really does count for a lot, since Christ said that only those who know the Father through the Son of God may enter Heaven - but we must know the Father with trust and childlike love of truth. This describes many cultures that were or are ignorant of Christ. The Gospel for today (the Sacred Heart) records our Lord saying that He makes the Father known “as it pleases Him”. If it pleased our Lord to allow millions to go without the Gospel until we had brought it by our lips and our deeds, then it was Providence. All things work toward the last End, the final Day.

Now, Moslems in this modern world can see and know about Christ with the click of a mouse button. There’s no excuse for not knowing about Him… but if you don’t truly Know Him, there’s a possible aside. We can have just Moslems, living in faith, hope, and charity without even knowing it. Some are indeed innocent of guile, but we really can’t say there’s any excuse for rejecting Christ if He is known.

Don’t worry! Don’t freak out! Calm down! The love of God is beyond the stars.

I hope you are at peace in mind now. I too would have been startled if I thought that, but rest assured The Church is redeemed and Her people only through Jesus and what He did on the Cross.

Well, you are correct in believing that Jesus opened the door to heaven, and anyone who enters heaven does so only through His mercy and grace. But a Muslim might have heard of Jesus and rejected Him as the Son of God, and can still be given eternal salvation, again through the merits and grace of Jesus.

In heaven, the happy will be in the company of atheists and agnostics and animists and Protestants and Mormons and Muslims and Jews and Buddhists and Hindus, and even Catholics.

The Catholic Church does not say if a person goes to heaven or hell, God says if a person goes to heavern or hell.

As for where stand as believers, we are the elder son in the parable of the Prodigal son. If the Father welcomes his lost child home are we going to exclude ourselves from the joy of the celebration when the Father welcomes his child home?

I find this from the Rule of St. Benedict very helpful in these questions,

As the Apostle says: Do you not know that the patience of God is leading you to repent (Rom 2:4)? And indeed the Lord assures us in his love: I do not wish the death of the sinner, but that he turn back to me and live (Ezek 33:11).

Do you have any document or sources you can cite that supports this position? [More specifically on where one who has heard of Jesus and rejected Him as the Son of God can be given eternal salvation.]

If one dies rejecting God and **does not repent **of it, then they do not enter heaven. Period.

God bless.

impossbile if they have heard of the Christian way and still deny Jesus as Lord then they condemn themselves to hell

Well, I believe the difference is that hearing the truth and not believing it is the truth, is not the same thing as knowing the truth and rejecting it.

The clear CAtholic teaching is that the judgment is reserved to Jesus Christ, and that He will exercise it open only at the end of the time.

The Church made some declaration about people who are in heaven, but never declared any individual to be damned.

We know that the the hell exist, and it populated not only by the the evild spirits but also with human souls (who will be risen for the eternal damnation), but we do not get any revelation which humans, individuals or groups are damned to hell.

Good points.

Country Steve, here is an excellent article right on Catholic Answers.

Do not freak out. Work out your own salvation and share your joy with the world.

Ultimately, God will do what is his most perfect Will.

Church teaching:
  • Baptisn is NECESSARY for salvation (but does not ensure it)
  • There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church
How can someone be baptised and a Catholic?
  • Sacramental Baptism as a Catholic
  • Baptism of Blood (non-Catholic dying for the Catholic faith)
  • Baptism of desire - Explicit (those who want to know more about Christ and have the desire to get baptised but die before scaramental baptism - e.g.those in RCIA)
  • Baptism of Desire - Implicit (those who may (not will) be saved through invincible ignorance meaning those who through no fault of their own do not know Christ, his Gospel and his Church but nevertheless in that ignorance still live a life in accordance with Christ’s teachings)
Outside the above four forms of baptism there is no salvation.
Not all Catholics are saved but everyone who is in Heaven is Catholic.

Outside the above four forms of baptism there is no salvation.
Excellent summary, thistle. Whenever anyone claims to know that whole groups of people are damned, what really comes to mind are the pious pharisees who would throw stones at the unclean Samaritans if they happened to wander into town, having the peace of mind that their tosses were sacred, but then there’s the parable of the Good Samaritan who stopped to give aid to a stranger in need while the pious avoided him.

well y’all thanks for the answers and God (the real God who is the Trinity) bless
