Hello,
I am a 13 year old catholic and love God with all my heart. I go to church every week, pray before meals, before going to bed, etc. unfortunately, the past year I have been having trouble with some sins that are SO horrible, but they keep occurring. After committing these sins I feel guilt, yet I keep doing them. These sins are masturabtion and pornography. I have tried countless options, ideas, etc. Nothing has seemed to help. I have prayed to god, different saints, went to confession and these sins keep occurring. Is there any ideas or advice anyone has for me? I desperately want to strengthen my relationship with God the way it was before. Additionally, could someone provide me with some closure on a topic I’m unsure about: is masturbation a mortal sin? Even if it wasn’t I still DESPERATELY want to overcome it, although there has been countless controversy on the web about it not being a sin. Could someone tell me the truth, please, I really want to end this addiction. I am going through puberty so the increase in hormones might be one trigger to this, but I want avoid this and be able to have a great relationship with God too, while going through puberty. This past year has been very tough for me and I need your help, prayers, and advice to help me navigate these rough waters. Please help me. God bless you!

Dear brother in Christ,

We all are human beings who are wretched creatures. it is God who came to this world as Jesus himself who did the universal act of salvation. We all fall in sins as it is our human nature.

There is a situation we read in Bible when Peter approached Jesus and asking him

"Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?”
What Jesus replied is very promising.
“Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.”

Jesus is ready to forgive unlimited times, But we also must forgive ourselves and go to the confessional even though we fall again. Jesus is not looking How perfect you are? but how much effort you put to lead a Holy life

We as humans cannot do a single act of goodness without the help of God.
What I want to say is do not lose your heart. When you fall in the pit stand up quick and wash with confession. Jesus is waiting for you there. He will definitely one day give you the strength to overcome it through Holy Spirit.

In my experience whenever after a repeated sin I failed to consider it as grave, and never bothered to confess or I tried to justify it , I fell into a deep trap of the evil .
Evil wil definitly try and make us tired of confession.

So whenever we fall in sin quickly stand up go straight to confession . The evil in our heart will say do it tomorrow . Clean and wash heart through confession the very next posiible chance , Do not keep it for another day . because Jesus is waiting for you at the confessional room forgive you .

Points to consider
  1. Do not loose heart
  2. Go to confession everytime you fall and dont take it lightly.
3.Forgive yourself as Jesus has forgiven you after confession.
  3. Start a new day, try everything possible to overcome it , God looks at your heart and perseverence .
  4. It is 100% sure with your perseverence God will give you the strength to overcome it through His Holy Spirit.
Few bible verses which can strengthen you .

Blessed is the man who perseveres in temptation, for when he has been proved he will receive the crown of life that he promised to those who love him. James 1:12

Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. Indeed, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will face an ordeal for ten days. Remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. Rev 2:10:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
on your own intelligence do not rely; Proverbs 3:5:

By your perseverance you will secure your lives. Luke 21:19

"No one can live continually in sin and continue to say the Rosary: either they will give up sin or they will give up the Rosary”~Bishop Hugh Doyle
