I’m in a difficult place in my life, and I have a real hard time finding any hope. My struggles are due to my mental illness and the fact that my husband is pulling away from the faith. I feel that God has abandoned me yet again. I fear every day that we will not be worthy of Heaven, and that I am much to blame. My religious OCD is out of hand and I don’t know if I’m even able to make a proper confession at this time or ever. The last time I received communion was probably around Easter. The usual OCD advice doesn’t seem to really help and my medication is only like putting a band-aid on a stab wound. I don’t know how you can help, but I’m at the point that I haven’t been able to really pray in years, so if you can pray, that’s a start.

I know there’s depression and anxiety at play, but could this be what is called a dark night of the soul? I don’t know why God put me on this Earth, when most of it has been suffering in silence :(.

Thanks in advance

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength, fortitude & wisdom in your time of need.

First of all, I’m sorry it’s been such a rough time for you. 😦 That must be hard. I don´t feel like I can really pray, myself, either. I think that happens, in part, with depression, just my “take” on this.

With your medication, had you gone back to your doctor, told him that it hasn´t helped very much, see if he can treak the dosage or switch to another one? I know this is supposed to be a “science”, but often, it takes some degree of patience, and going back and going back until the right dosage, and medication, is found…one thing.

So, counseling isn´t helping? That’s a shame. 😦

What about a support group? marital counseling? These are only a few thoughts. If they work for you, take them. If not, leave them for someone else on the forum who could benefit from them.

Good luck with whatever you decide to try.

I will certainly pray for you. I hope that you can talk to your husband, your priest or a trusted deacon, and your doctor. It may be a dark time for you, but this too shall pass. It is possible to make your way through the dark and back to the light, and I pray this for you!

Eternal, Holy God, I come to You burdened with worries, fears, doubts and troubles. Calm and quiet me with peace of mind. Empty me of the anxiety that disturbs me, of the concerns that weary my spirit, and weigh heavy on my heart.

Loosen my grip on the disappointments and grievances I hold on to so tightly. Release me from the pain of past hurts, of present anger and tension, of future fears.

Sometimes it’s too much for me Lord, too many demands and problems, too much sadness, suffering and stress.

Renew me spiritually and emotionally. Give me new strength, hope, and confidence. Prepare me to meet the constant struggles of daily life with a deeper faith and trust in You. Amen. †

O Loving Jesus, meek Lamb of God, I a miserable sinner, salute and worship the most Sacred Wound of Thy Shoulder on which Thou didst bear Thy heavy Cross, which so tore Thy Flesh and laid bare Thy Bones as to inflict on Thee an anguish greater than any other Wound of Thy Most Blessed Body. I adore Thee, O Jesus most sorrowful; I praise and glorify Thee and give Thee thanks for this most sacred and painful Wound, beseeching Thee by that exceeding pain and by the crushing burden of Thy heavy Cross to be merciful to me, a sinner, to forgive me all my mortal and venial sins, and to lead me on towards Heaven along the Way of Thy Cross. Amen. †

O loving Mother of our Redeemer, gate of heaven, star of the sea,
Hasten to aid thy fallen people who strive to rise once more.
Thou who brought forth thy holy Creator, all creation wond’ring,
Yet remainest ever Virgin, taking from Gabriel’s lips
that joyful “Hail!”: be merciful to us sinners.

I’ll pray for you. I also have OCD and scrupulosity and can appreciate your difficulties. From experience I can assure you that only by throwing yourself into God’s merciful hands and receiving the sacraments can you really get past it in a meaningful way. But, again from experience, I realize how difficult that is.

Holy Michael the Archangel defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the Power of God,
thrust down to hell satan and all the wicked spirits,
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession and was left forsaken. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my words, O Mother of the Word, but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen

All of Jesus’ life was suffering in silence. I will include you in my daily rosaries. God bless you.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mental Peace

O Lady of Mental Peace,
Mother of Tranquility
and Mother of Hope,
look upon taye in this time
of weakness and unrest.

Teach her searching heart
to know that God’s Love
for her is unchanging and
unchangeable, and, that
true human love can only
begin and grow by touching
His Love.

Let your gentle Peace -
which this world cannot give
  • be always with her.
And, help her to bring this
    same Peace into the lives
    of others.
Our Lady of Mental Peace,
  • Pray for us!
    Amen.
Jesus, Help Me!

In every need let me come to You with humble trust,
saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments,
troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your Grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good
come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and
I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and short-
comings of every kind:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, help me and never forsake me!

Hail Mary,
Full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou amoungst women,
And blessed is the fruit of Thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death,
Amen

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to their assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.
