:gopray: Praying for you

I would strongly advise you to pray the Rosary everyday, if not more frequently, try having some of you intentions being for your own purity and the purity for others, I pretty much do this daily. Also whenever the inkling of temptation comes up, immediately start praying, I start by asking God for help and I say the Our Father, 3 Hail Marys, Prayer to Guardian Angel, and Prayer to St. Michael and a Glory Be, and the thoughts/temptations quickly disappear, truly a miracle If they come back I start praying again.

yes. I have been going to football practice everday except weekends and Wednesday’s and have been missing rosary on TV. But I am going to download rosary and pray it before practice, during the day.

Praying for you also. Football practice? I assume you are very young then and I don’t know about everyone else on here but that would have been tough at a young age. What is the churchs ruling on this? Especially for the young?

First, we are all sinners and no one is talking down to you. Scripture says that we are to help carry each other’s burdens, so so the following is offered as some assistance:

Second, The Letter of ST. Paul to James is what you might call a New Testament ‘book of wisdom’ like the wisdom books of the Old Testament.

1:14 Rather, each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

This verse is from the New American Bible. Actually, the alternate RSV-CE (revised standard edition, catholic edition, 2 nd edition) uses a more instructive word “beguiled” instead of the word ‘enticed’ in the preceding quotation.

Beguiled means that we are not just enticed, but we are deceived at the same time. So, the verse is telling us that temptations also deceive us. They deceive us into sinning, just as the devil “beguiled” Adam and Eve into sinning, as described in the book of Genesis.

Third, a lot of folks write in these forums about specific sins that beset them. There may be specific advice that will help them. A confessor once said that someone tempted to masturbation might try sleeping with their clothes on, going to sleep with a crucifix or Bible in their arms. We might hasten to add such things as trying to eliminate the temptations by restricting what you look at on the internet and in magazines, if that’s where your temptations arise.

Fourth. The solution and antidote for all sin is to pray for deeper faith and to evangelize yourself more (which applies to all of us, no matter what our temptations).

You (and all of us) need and ought to be looking for a higher level of spiritual maturity. That is the answer, isn’t it? Part of that comes from prayer, as the Psalm says, “create in me, O LORD, a clean heart.”

Jesus says the greatest commandment is to love the LORD our God with our whole mind, soul, heart, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourself. You (and we all) need to work on this, especially the part about “all our strength.”

Scripture tells us to be “perfect” as God is perfect. That’s our goal, We HAVE to be focused on perfection, starting today.

By accident, I happened to read the Lutheran of discipleship, in a book (around 300 pages) called The Cost of Discipleship, by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. It’s pro-Lutheran and anti-catholic in a few early parts, but most of it is good solid scriptural advice. It’s a book that is intended to change your mind, period, about everything, about Jesus Christ.

I have on my shelf, but have not gotten to yet, the Catholic version of this Christian teaching. Personally, I’m just developing a list of the things I want to get to (so I’m not saying this is the best or only things to meditate on). Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium, the Constitution of the Church, part 5 or chapter 5 has what it called the ‘call to universal holiness.’

I also have some high hopes for a book that I am reading now called Deep Conversion, Deep Prayer, by Fr. Thomas Dubay ( I got this from EWTN catalogue), and he has a longer book on the same subject, a book with the title Fire Within.

Dubay’s book on Deep Conversion is a nice chat on the subject, but Bonhoeffer’s book is the 2x4 between the eyes kind of book, on conversion and the life of the disciple.

These books are centered on the scripture of course and centered on Jesus. He spoke with authority and truth. He speaks to us today as much as he did long ago. That is the message that the writers of the gospel were inspired to tell us about. Don’t miss it.

well. Its a sin for everyone to masturbate so thats outa the question.
Its just how serious because of other factors. But I know its wrong
, I have to stop this. If I really loved God I would try my hardest. Thats what I want. I wish I had a special handicap thing that said it was okay. But hey…at least it will show God I love him. Im 15

You’re very inspirational, Mini Gerbel! Most people of your age don’t give a second thought to offending God. It’s all about them!

Do keep resisting these temptations. I know from personal experience that this is a terrible habit to kick. What got me through it was frequent confession. Every time that I slipped up, I confessed.

For me, I needed to completely change my state of mind. The thoughts that finally helped me conquer lust were these:
  1. I know that I will experience sexual temptation
  2. I know that I will have feelings of lust
  3. I can do one of two things
    a) Allow them to control my behavior (gawking, flirting, masturbation)
    b) Allow God’s grace to remove these lustful feelings
  4. Either way, the lustful feelings will pass. You just need to consistently choose the second option – and have the faith that God will indeed remove the feelings of lust – because he will. It’s his desire to have you closer to him.
Frequent confession. Avoid the near occasion of sin. In other words, don’t stare where you shouldn’t be and stay away from the dirty sites. God WILL do the rest. He will do it right now and forever if you’ll let him.

Peace & God bless.

I would suggest to go to confession frequently, stay away from bad sites, tv shows, and people who talk badly. Pray to the saints and angels. Pray to your gaurdian angel and say 7 Glory Be’s. Say a Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy. I am praying for you! You will overcome this! Don’t give up! God Bless! +

I know this can be a difficult habit to break. The Virgin Mother helped me break it last year.

I will pray for you.:signofcross:

Hail Mary, full of grace. The lord is with you. Blessed art thou among women and bless is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

I’m praying for you Mini. I’m twice your age but just came into the Church this year, and have been struggling with this myself. Before my conversion, I didn’t understand sex at all. You’re doing a great job trying to be chaste. Keep up the work and don’t be down on yourself. The more you love yourself and God, the easier it will be to respect your dignity and God’s. Hate the sin, but keep your head up. God holds you higher in His heart than any of us can imagine. Do you have access to any Theology of the Body material? There’s a great book called Theology of the Body for Teens, and Theology of the Body for Beginners. Take a look at them if you can. God bless you.
