Conservative,
Thanks, and I appreciate the thoughts. Last year, when my son was only 6 years old, our pastor --not where the TLM is celebrated-- suggested that he thought my son was ready for First Communion and asked if I was going to enroll him in the parish preparatory class. To be completely honest, I did not feel my son was ready, although if compared to the other children that were going through the class, my son was light-years ahead of them…but I did not count that as “ready” in my opinion.
Confiteor Deo Omnipotenti, et vos fratres…that, at times, I expect way too much from my son. A bishop reminded recently: “Hey, he’s only seven.” I know, I know; I agree with him.
So now, I do think he’s ready for First Communion, but at the same time I’m not so sure that my parish’s “preparatory” course is acceptable. I hold tradition and orthodoxy in high regard, and sadly, I find almost everything associated with my parish to be way too liberal. Bottom line: I don’t want my son corrupted with being taught differently than I’ve taught him. I’ve used mostly the Baltimore Catechism with my son. I wish that our pastor could just do a one-on-one Q/A with him and call it a day.
I whole-heartedly agree with you and Markadm. I do think I will ask the TLM priest and see what he says on the matter, and then run it by my pastor, as I respect him enough to get his (name removed by moderator)ut.
