I’m finishing college in two months and I’m worried about moving on. Lots of my friends are in serious relationships or getting married, and I’m still single after all of these years. I’m scared about not finding a good catholic person outside of college. I know that I’m young, but it’s just hard to be the odd single girl out. I’m also dealing with being rejected by someone who “liked me” but is now with another girl that apparently he liked more than me. Since I go to a small school, I see them together all the time. It doesn’t help that everyone else knows about this and I have to deal with knowing that people are talking about it and feeling sorry for me. So now I"m finishing college feeling lonely, akward, and worried about the future. Any prayers or advice would be welcome! Thanks 🙂

I’ll keep you in my prayers. I know this must be a hard situation! But keep praying; offer it up, and realize that God has a plan for you.

Sweetie, there is no bell that is going to dong and if you haven’t found a partner by then you walk the plank.

You are looking at this all wrong.

You are a pearl of great price and the apple of God’s eye. You have great value. Don’t be so quick to give yourself away. Make sure you only give your life to someone worthy.

Don’t EVER settle!

You have plenty of time. This is YOUR time to find jobs and a career you like. Through that you will meet people who will widen your life to the point the old school chums will be irrelevant.

This is YOUR time to discover who YOU are as an adult so when you do meet someone of value, it will be as equals. You won’t be someone timid and vulnerable (or seeming so) that someone might take advantage of.

Be happy for the guy who left you and the girl he’s with. She took a problem off your hands. If he wasn’t a keeper, you don’t want him. He may be for her, not for you. Pray that God will lead you to the right person.

After college you may find the field of good Catholic men a little limited at first. Go to church and be a good Catholic woman. Eventually they come looking for that. But often good Catholic men just out of college are trying to establish careers. Because they are being good and dependable they are trying to establish themselves in lives that will enable them to raise a family someday. You’ll find guys like that at work. And at church.

Please change your attitude from "I’m lonely and awkward’ to “I"m lovely and worth waiting for.” Those who marry in haste repent at leisure.

It’s a cruel time for young people… the whole ark mentality. And if you don’t have someone to walk up the plank with two by two, that means something is wrong with you.

Not at all. You dont’ have to take the first person who comes along. It’s not a race. Enjoy this time to be YOU and earn some money, spend a little on yourself. Become more independent. Blossom where you are. And when you think people pity you because the guy you like left, don’t be sad or bitter. Smile and say “well, I’m still available if you know anyone who is looking for a nice Catholic girl.” The nice thing about people is they love matchmaking. You never know some girl may have an older brother and she’ll be happy to introduce you, but only because you’re someone she thinks is worthy. (I"ve been known to do that and one of my siblings introduced another to their future spouse.)

When people walk on by in your life, thank them. Wish them well. And pray that God lets you recognize the right one. HE won’t recognize you unless you have a cheerful welcoming smile on YOUR face. :o

The guys looking for long-term stable relationships don’t often do that right after graduation. Give yourself a few years to live life. Live it well. The rest will fall into place. 👍

Some people put off marriage until after graduate school, or after a doctorate, because they do not have the finances for marriage and children. They may not even have the time to socialize until this schooling is finished. Spend this time in a couple of ways: 1. Learn about your Faith, return to practicing it if you haven’t been, keep up with the news. Pray, learn to pray better. Volunteer at the Parish. 2. All that you learned? Put it to good use. Sometimes in college we pass tests without making what we learn apart of our lives, for the lack of time. 3. Find a job, or continue schooling. Have some financial stability, or spend a few years in giving your life to the Church, Peace Corps or some other charity. 4. Get to know your parents, your Father has some ideas about spouses and who might be a good one. Spend time with your Father. Think well of yourself, and treat yourself and your family and friends with respect. Retain your dignity as a child of God.
