Normally I try to pray the LOTH - and even some of the Horologion too, when I can’t fit it into the schedule - however some days I have to run out quickly, and I was thinking to get a prayer book with morning and evening prayers for such a scenario. I already own a number of Western prayer books, and while many of them do have morning and evening prayers, they’re usualy a quite random assortment of various tidbits from the rest of the book with no real order nor conformity between the different books. Plus they’re usually very, very short - usually just an Our Father, a few Hail Marys and a morning supplication.

So, you can tell how excited I was when I learned about Eastern Prayer Books. The morning and evening prayers in most of them are mostly an abridged hybrid of the Morning Aggregate (Midnight Office, Matins and First hour), Same with the evening Prayers (Vespers and Midnight Office). It essentially allows me to pray the Horologion offices even on time-streched days.

Now, the problem is, that just about every single Eastern publishing company has a prayer book in publication. In fact - I think there are probably more Eastern prayer books on the market than there are Western Books. And I have nowhere to start. A friend of mine recommends the Jordanville Prayer Book. This appears to be a very big-name book in the Eastern World. However, from what I understand the morning and evening prayers in it are much longer than those in other prayer books. Another recommendation was for Christian Prayer by Holy Transfiguration Monastery. They use the midnight office and small compline in full: however it is based on the Greek rite, whose Midnight office and compline are quite shorter than those of the Russian Rites, as is my Horologion. Would these be okay? Do you have any better reccomendations?

There is also this for the Daily Cycle of prayers of the Byzantine Catholic Church:

The Publican’s Prayer Book, which is published by the Melkite Eparchy of Newton is excellent. It is once again available, after many months of being out of stock. It is essentially the Jordanville Prayer book, in modern langague. It is also visually beautiful.

Another good book is Byzantine Catholic Prayer for the Home, available online here: archive.org/stream/ByzantineCatholicPrayerForTheHome/Byzantine_Catholic_Prayer_For_The_Home#page/n0/mode/2up

Personally I would recommend the Old Orthodox Prayer Book, Has Morning and Evening prayers, Akathists, Pre-Post Communion prayers, I absolutely love it! Even more stuff is in it too 👍
