My mother is the choir director at her Catholic Church. She needs help finding a scripture passage talking about singing praise to the Lord or something similar. Does anyone have any ideas? We’ve been looking for the past hour and still can’t find anything. Thank you.

Bernice, check the Psalms. They ARE songs of praise. Many of them encouraging us to sing our praises to God.

Psalm 100 is subtitled Joyful Song on Entering God’s Temple.

Hope that helps!

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
(Ephesians 5:18-21 NASB)

There is a lovely setting of “The Canticle of the Sun,” also called “All creatures of our God and King.” Lovely music, lovely words. It’s actually in the “Breaking bread” book. There’s a more modern version there, too, but it can’t hold a candle to this one.

You can hear the tune here: cyberhymnal.org/htm/a/c/acoogak.htm

I’ve sung those words of St. Francis in severla Protestant churches. It’s past time for us Catholics to reclaim it!

Another nice old praise standard, with only one verse, is:

I frequently have one or the other running in the background when I 'm on the 'puter.
