Need to break an addiction

It may seem harmless but I need help in breaking what I consider and addiction to these forums. I find myself in disagreements in some threads and it pains me to be told there is only one Catholic way of thinking on every issue. That may be true on moral issues and faith issues but political stuff such as the war and assisting the poor must be open to more than one way. If they are not these forums are just puppets for an ultra right wing agenda.
 
I consider myself left winged and I disagree with a lot of the points politically too but the thing you are emphasizing here is your addiction.

How about giving this place up for the rest of Lent? Lots of people do!

Or stick to one area of the forum, like liturgies and sacraments… I mean, what kind of political hot debate can you get in into in there? (haha I am sure it is possible)

I’ve seen plenty of threads dominated by the “left wing” viewpoint on these boards. I don’t know what you are talking about.

There are some leftists who can’t stand to read anything they disagree with. They condemn a whole operation as a “right wing puppet” if they see one opinion with which they disagree. Is it possible that that’s what is happening with you?

I am a part of what you would call the “ultra right wing.” And yet, even after I have seen scads of liberal opinions around here, I still log on and discuss. I argue with those who disagree, and they argue with me. And then we go on about our merry way, doing as we each see fit.

Are you letting an emotional investment in these boards interfere with your “real life?” If so, then I agree that you may need to evaluate their value in your life and perhaps step back.

But the right wing uses the same dirty tactics that the left wing uses. They complain when they are called Hitler and then call the left Hitler. Right now neither side is winning points with me. And while there may be one Catholic position on faith and morals, there are a host of options on things such the war and economic aid to the poor. The right wing tries to pretend that there is only one Catholic way on each and every issue. Just not the case.
 
The left calls people “Hitler” when they disagree with those people.

The right calls people “Stalinists” when they act like Stalin.

I don’t want to engage in a debate about the moral credentials of either side (though I admit I just threw a bomb, even though it’s true. Read some Tammy Bruce…). There’s dirty politics everywhere, and honet servants on both sides.

I thought this was about you being “addicted” to the boards. My point with my previous post was that it’s perfectly possible to enjoy these boards and not let them intrude on real life in a detrimental way even if something we read makes us see red.
