Need to know what to do with other Religion Books?

I have a “boat load” of JW and Seventh Day Advent books, from years ago. (Years ago I had studied with both Religions, at different times.

For the past 2 years I’ve been back home to the Catholic Church, (which I’ll never take a leave of abstence from again). So now I need to know what should I do with all these books? Since I don’t believe what these two Religions believe and I don’t want the books, what do I do?

Should I take the JW books to their Kingdom Hall?

Should I take the Seventh Day Advent Books to their Church?

Any advice would be helpful.

If you don’t think you will ever use them as reference material, you could run them through a shredder, and use them for stuffing in fragile Christmas present boxes.

You could also use the shredded paper as kindling for a nice Christmas fire. 🙂

For myself, I have a really hard time throwing books away. I have computer programming books for operating systems and software that went out of business nearly a decade ago, and I still think, “But it could come in handy for something.” :rolleyes:
 
I’m probably the wrong person to give advice, as I’m here to learn about Catholicism… But having grown up in the SDA church and am currently having my own JW problems (nice people, but I’m not interested… and no doesn’t mean no hehe) If you take them to the church, you might get pulled in for a theology discussion. If you’re up for that, then go for it. I’d be a chicken and put them in a bag and leave it on the doorstep of the church/kingdom hall with a note “donation” or something 😉 (But seriously I’m a chicken) 😃

My friend argued that since that Bible is a perversion of The Truth, I shouldn’t hesitate to throw it away.

If it should get into the hands of anyone who is unaware it could be dangerous. I usually take their (JW) material with the hopes that one less person will be swayed by their distorted views of Christianity. If you give it back to them then they may distribute it to someone else and that would not be good. I would either keep the material for reference when speaking with them or burn them. You cannot take the chance that all of that false doctrine could end up in someone else’s hands. We cannot be “polite” with literature that distorts the very nature of our God and lessens our Lord and Savior. I would destroy the material either with a shredder or a fire pit…teachccd

Yes, the New World Translation is indeed a perversion of truth.I have three copies for reference only. If and when I don’t need them I will burn them for fear that even if I should throw them away someone may get a hold of them. This is a serious distorton of our Christian faith and we should do everything in our power to see that no one gets a hold of JW material. They do not believe that Jesus is God and that is a SERIOUS mistake that undermines 2000 years of solid Christian teaching. Also, much of the JW’s publicatons are very anti- Catholic and that is very direct and not subliminal. So please, as a form of evangelization ,do not allow these false teachings to have any opportunity to reach out to anyone else…teachccd
 
This may sound harsh, but you need to throw them away, burn them or shred, like already mentioned. As a Catholic, why would you want someone to read that stuff. To me, I would not want to be responsible for someone thinking JWs and SDA are the truth.

If I were you, I’d keep them so I can be a better witness to them! For instance, if you show them things in the Bible that contradict their teachings, and they respond “we don’t teach that”…you can show them. You can use their materials to learn more about their errors…which will make you a more effective witness. For instance, see what the Jehovah’s Witenesses write about what happened to Jesus body! They’ll say it vanished or something. Then when you talk to them, show them what the Bible says…it ascended into heaven per Acts 1:11. Use JW materials to show people why the JWs are wrong.

Yes, that is what I do with any material given to me from other faiths. I turn it around and make them my resources for evangelization. But if that is not the case then the material should be destroyed. If one found a “Jesus is NOT God” sign on the ground I truly doubt that one would want to return it to its rightful owner. Nor would you want anyone else to have it. It would have to be destroyed…teachccd
 
Thank you all for your advice.

My first thoughts were to pack up the books and drop them off at the Kingdom Hall, (the JW books) since they were given to me. And I’ll even admit, I too was going to put them outside on their doorstep, which is covered by a roof, in a box with a garbage bag and a note attached, so no one would think it was garbarge.

Then I read another persons posting on here that said, maybe keep them for reference material…I had thought about keeping one of their Bibles and also their “Reasoning wtih the Scriptures” book, because it is true there are things I can show them with their “Own” books and Bible to show how their “beliefs” are wrong.

Then one of you said, something about what if someone else who didn’t know better read them, it could make them think the JW’s were right…Panic hit me at the thought of that. :eek: It is true…someone could be very mislead and very easy. I wouldn’t want that…After all I know the Truth and it began when Jesus started the Catholic Church and she still stands strong today.

It’s really too bad, but I think other than a few to keep for reference material…I should burn them. I don’t want to be responsible for someone else being mislead.

Since I bought all the SDA books, I won’t feel bad about burning them, I had a hard time reading them anyway, Ellen White does not have a smooth writing style…

Again thank you everyone for your advice…it means a lot to me.
