Hello everyone,
after coming from confession back into the main part of the church I start to say my penance and all of a sudden someone starts saying the rosary.I finish my prayers, join in with the rosary prayers but have to leave,my question is this ,have I committed a sin
by leaving when prayers are being said?. This is during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament,
your advice would be most welcome,
Thank you,
Mick.(uk)

No, God understands. You can if you still feel bad about it finish the rosary at your house or say some prayers.

Most likely not. I imagine you had a legitimate reason to leave.

I see three different cases…

1)If you were motivated to leave those prayers for something sinful, then leaving may not be a sin, but it may suggest a spiritual problem.

2)If you were motivated to leave because of a spiritual problem such as boredom, it may not be a sin, but you should certainly seek out a spiritual director.

3)If you had something else to do, then of course it wasn’t sinful. In fact, if say you had work to attend to, you may turn prayer into an occasion for sin by using it as an excuse to avoid work.

I suspect though, that you had the best of intentions. 🙂

The short answer is NO you did not commit a sin.

Hi Englishguy,

for what it is worth, i can’t see how it would be a sin.

Sometimes in adoration when i am praying silently, someone might start up the public rosary.

If i finish before them i usually just bless myself and leave, or join in if the spirit moves.

I don’t think i am being sinful in leaving, and i don’t think the person starting up the public rosary is disrespectful to others who are there for adoration or reconciliation.

Hopefully our life is a prayer to God whether we are adoring, saying the rosary or simply walking down the street.

God Bless.

Hello everyone,
thanks for all your replies,I really value your opinions, God Bless,

Boy, I’d be in big trouble if it was a sin to leave during the Rosary. At the parish where I attend daily Mass, the parishioners launch into the Rosary about sixty seconds after Mass ends. I’d have to bolt for the door like a lunatic if I had to be gone before it started. :rotfl: Seriously, though, we do have to remember that optional devotions, laudable as they are, are still optional.
