I know that learning to sing isn’t always that easy as people might think.
I often find that people who are untrained singers can attend Mass and try to sing.
Why should untrained singers sing at Mass? As a person who take singing seriously I find that Mass is not a time for practicing singing.
Also, who can it be that it is supposed to be easy to find out the correct key? It is actually too low at Mass (something that organists should be aware of but probably aren’t). Lift up your hearts are too low.
I cannot attend Mass if they have music as I don’t agree with how badly things are. I do like the technical quality of the organist.
How should I deal with it?

Are these people volunteer? It takes quite a few years of training to learn to use your voice.

Are you part of the music ministry?

Go to the low mass. The mass where they don’t sing. You get all the benefits of attending mass without having your ears offended. Usually they have this mass early in the morning (7am in my parish)

Music at Mass is not supposed to be performance, it is supposed to be prayer.
We are all supposed to lift our voices in praise.

Firstly, I think you should remind yourself that Mass is about more than music, and don’t make it the be all and end all for your attendance.

To change things, why don’t you volunteer and work with them?

Are you talking about choir members, or just people in the pews?

Yes but why too low? Some hymns should go up to E or F.
I often transpose hymns up a minor or major third.

When I used to go to mass, the choir members were the least of the musical problem. It was the people sitting in the pews who over sang them and couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket. Of course, I was one of them, so I really don’t have much else to say about it. I think maybe spend a little time reminding yourself to not be distracted by such things.

You have to take that up with the music director.
My guess, it is easier for the mostly untrained to sing at a lower octive.
If you have musical training, please consider volunteering instead of complaining.

Offer up your suffering (in regards to having to listen to poor music) to God at the Mass. Jesus suffered greatly for us and you can offer your suffering too to God at the Mass.

The main point of a Mass is to worship God, not that the music that is performed is pleasing to the assembly.

Of course, one would want the music be pleasing to God but those members of the choirs and those in the assembly who are singing I believe are trying to sing at their best God-given abilities. If their lack of musicianship makes your ears suffer, so be it. Just offer your suffering to God and move on.

You are saying that I should never sing at a Mass unless I am in the choir?

Are you in music ministry? If not , why not join and start making a contribution.

I dont see how attending low EF Mass will benefit. There is music there too.

Everyone should song at Mass, the Choir’s role is only to lead the singing of the Assembly. And that song should be easy for all, as should the Mass setting. There are special hymns that can be reserved for the Choir like a capella, and occassional hymns

No. I said either deal with it or help to improve it. Just don’t complain if you choose to do nothing.

It is tye same thing with Ja må du leva (the Swedish birthday tune).
I was told that I could lead some people in singing this tune at a meeting I attended. Not many people tried to sing it seriosuly.
If people don’t care about singing why sing?

Perhaps consider it is you taking it too seriously? I do mean that nicely. I think you’re focusing far too much on the music, instead of what the actual purpose of you being at Mass is.

The Music ministry has a role to teach the assembly the songs. How do your group teach ?

You teach music outside Mass.
Is Mass a time for teaching the art of singing?
