Need your opinions

I wore my mantilla to the NO for the first time this morning at Mass. I went by myself and it was difficult, but I got through it and felt good afterwards.

Now, my husband and I are having a difference of opinion about next weekend when we will attend Mass together at the NO. He feels that during the sign of the peace, if I am wearing my mantilla, he would not kiss me as he normally does because he feels that it would be disrespecting “what I’m trying to do” sotospeak in wearing the veil to reverence God and show submission. I completely disagree and don’t see any problem with it at all.

What is your personal opinion and reasoning if you care to share? We could use some outside (name removed by moderator)ut on this issue.

(P.S. - He wanted me to let you all know that he is not embarassed about it, he just feels uncertain because when we attend the Latin Mass there is no “sign of peace” as in the NO. And since we are bringing a “Latin Mass tradition” to the NO in a way, he wants to set a good example and only do what is appropriate.)

Nah, the mantilla is a Catholic tradition.

Depends on the kiss, I’d say. If it’s just a lil peck on the lips, I’d say it’s fine. I don’t see any reason it would be wrong.

You are showing humility in front of God with the mantilla/veil. But, in God’s eyes, you are also one through marriage, so, really, I see no problem with it.

If I saw a couple at the NO, with the lady wearing a headcovering, and then at the SoP they kissed, I would not be surprised or offended.

Just make sure it’s not a heavy-duty-sin-inducing kiss.

By all means wear your Veil.

My thoughts on why.

Wearing your Veil is a sign of submission and Respect for our Lords presence. St. Paul talks about Women covering their heads…please read what St. Paul has to say on the topic.

My question to you and your husband…(this is only to help) is this.

What difference does it make What type of Mass is being celebrated?

a) Isn’t our Lord Present in both types? Does our respect change because of the “type”?
b) You will be in a Catholic Church, so does that change anything? (just because of the way Mass is said?)
c) and most important…It is still Mass being celebrated. (the Lord is present in both types.)

I wear my “headcovering/veil” in both types of Mass. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s Latin or English. Modern or Tradional…either way it’s still a Mass to our Lord.

When a woman wears her headcovering or Veil at a Mass it doesn’t make “Us” untouchable. We are wearing them because we love the Lord and we are showing respect and honor towards Him.

Just my thoughts since you asked for them.

The only difference to the type of Mass, is that in the EF/TLM, there is no Sign of Peace among the laity. Hence her dilemma.
