How do you think the evil forces would try to do this? How could this force enter into the Mass?

The evil forces were more in you than in the Mass. The devil is always looking for a way to pull us down. He knows when we are at a weak point and he starts chiseling away. Confession is a great first step. About six months ago I started meeting with a spiritual director. Spiritual direction can not only help you with things going on currently in your life, but it can also help build up your defenses.
