Neo Catechumenal Way coming to our parish?

I know of a parish at which the pastor was retiring. Our bishop who is a supporter allowed the NCW priests to move in and take over. Much was changed and upset parishioners left for other parishes. At the same time they were replaced with new people joining the the Way.

Well, as it stands, neither of us are credible.
Excuse me?

Ok if we want to talk about credibility, I have more than you considering that I have personal experience with the group and have witnessed these things with my own eyes and ears.

You? You heard gossip on an internet forum?

Either way, I could care less. I’m not a member of the group, nor do I have any interest to join. The OP asked for information about this group and I’m offering MY own experiences, not something I read on an internet forum. If the OP has any questions based on what I have witnessed, I’d be glad to help.

Nope, I read things on a blog, and also saw pictures.

No, I’m not. They refuse to celebrate Sunday mass on what is, planetarily, Sunday. While they technically can’t be called out for that, since it is liturgically Sunday, doesn’t that seem a bit ridiculous? That would be like refusing to celebrate mass on Wednesday, just because. No scheduling problems, nothing, just refusing to do it. It begs, why?
I would say that you are. You said that they refuse to celebrate Sunday Mass on Sunday.

Regardless of what you think Saturday evening is considered Sunday by the Church so they do celebrate Sunday Mass on Sunday.

Really it is not for you or I to judge.

Your comparison does not work. There is no obligation to have a Wednesday Mass so there is no reason necessary for not having one.

There would need to be a very grave reason not to have a Sunday Mass, but as pointed out the Way does have one.

If your parish is considering to start the Neocatechumenal Way, it is great news, because it brings people back to the Church. You asked for personal experiences, right? Well, I have met many, many people who were brought back to the Church through the Neocatechumenal Way. Probably that is also the reason why it receives so strong acknowledgement from the Holy See.

I have witnessed this as well.

I have also witnessed at many gatherings, hoards and hoards of youth coming forward when it was asked for all who were considering a vocation to come forward. Hoards. Hoards.

I have never seen such a thing in my own parish. In fact, we can’t even get the youth to come to a youth group meeting once a month.

After witnessing that, I think that’s why I get a little irritated when I see the gossip machine spewed around about this group. If y’all want to reject them, fine. But let’s reject them based on FACT.

I still don’t get why this would be needed in our parish? We have a vibrant and thriving Catholics Can Come Home program as well as a parish that has grown by 40% in the last several years…so much so we are out of space.

I don’t get it?

It is up to the Pastor and the Bishop.

Many ways to Follow Christ.

When I was born, my parents were in the Neo-Catechumenal way. I grew up and in my childhood and teens I went with my parents to celebrate Mass for some 15 years in my life. Since we moved and that parish (which had the Neo-Catechumenal way) is quite long in distance, its been some 6 years of going there but not constanty. I dont often go there (once every 4 months maybe).

Well look here’s my opinion about the Neo Catechumenal Way:
Its definitely a Catholic movement inspired by the Holy Spirit. Their songs are all biblical. Singing them moves your spirit. They evangelize a lot (in streets etc.). They have these meetings every week to read the bible and do some prayer. If you enter this movement, I believe as a requirement you would have to pray the liturgy of hours (my parents always do so). If you finish the Neo-Catechumenal way, you get to go to Holy Land (or at least if you finish it in Mexico). There is a lot of support for the youth to go to the world youth, wherever it is. I recommend the Neo-Catechumenal way to anyone. I Must mention that some of these things (such as traveling), may depend a lot in the parish in which this movement is installed in.

They have been corrected a couple of times by Pope John II and Benedict in some liturgical areas, but since they (as all Catholics) are bound by the Pope, they have always corrected themselves when needed. Other than that, its a really awesome movement.

I currently don’t go to it anymore because my local parish does not have it, but I would join it if they did.

Oh my goodness. 😦
Read what it says:
"Now, pursuant to articles 131 and 133 paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Apostolic Constitution ‘Pastor Bonus’ on the Roman Curia, the Pontifical Council forthe Laity, having received the ‘nulla osta’ of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, grants approval to those celebrations contained in the Catechetical Directory of the Neo-Catechumenal Way which are not, by their nature, already regulated by the liturgical books of the Church".
In other words, they are not allowed to mess with the Mass, which IS regulated by the liturgical books of the Church.

Can anyone tell me, or point me to the “Books” written and used by the NCW group? I understand the Catechism they use was designed by their founders, Kiko Arguello and Carmen Hernandez. What are their backgrounds? What are the differences between the Catechism they use for initiation and The Catechism of the Catholic Church? What are the specific Liturgical Rites that the NCW have developed? Many questions and to much slanted information on the blogs. I want to read the actual information from the founders.

For those of you that say that the Neo Catechumenal way is a sect, see the own words of Pope Benedict XVI:

“How can we not bless the Lord for the spiritual fruits which, through the methodology of evangelization that you apply, have been harvested in these years,” the Holy Father asked. “How many fresh apostolic energies have risen up both among priests and among laypeople! How many men and women and how many families that had grown distant from the ecclesial community or had abandoned the practice of Christian life, through the announcement of the kerygma and the itinerary of rediscovery of baptism, have been helped to find again the joy of the faith and the enthusiasm of the testimony of the Gospel.”

-Pope Benedict XVI, addressing his message to some 25,000 NeoCats, 1/2009

In the Neo Catechumenal way, there are quite a few stages one must know of if one wants to join. I must say that it can take many years to get through all stages. Some take 20 years. Some even 30. It depends a lot in one’s own parish.

Stages of the catechumenate:

Precatechumenate.
Announcement of the kerygma: Initial Catechesis
Coexistence of beginning: “Birth of the Community.”
first ballot
Shema

Post-baptismal catechumenate.
re-count
Introduction to Prayer
Symbol of Faith (Traditio Symboli and Redditio Symboli)
Lord’s Prayer.

Election.
Coexistence and scrutiny.
Solemn renewal of baptismal promises at the Easter Vigil.
Holy Land Pilgrimage

Well, regarding “The Way”, i have found this:
cathud.com/links/pages_MR/Neocatechumenal_Way_Kiko_Arguello.htm

this:
eraofpeace.tripod.com/nchintro.html

This:
"In the Diocese of Clifton in the UK, in 1994 an extensive investigation of the communities was carried out, despite having an official seal of approval from Pope John Paul II. The investigation reported that the movement was “a form of spiritual enslavement” and that its presence in parishes was “completely divisive and destructive.” The Bishop of Clifton, Mervyn Alexander issued a decree the next year banning the Neocatechumenal Way from further activity in the diocese. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neocatechumenal_way

This:
In the Philippines, the Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan imposed a temporary moratorium on all initial catechesis in the Way within that Archdiocese in May 2010. No new communities will be opened, and no new members may be initiated. He explained that “despite its positive effects … there are certain concerns about the direction the Neocatechumenate is leading to”. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neocatechumenal_way

This:
Archbishop Peter Takeo Okada has described the Way’s presence in Japan’s small Catholic community as “a serious problem” and “divisive and confrontational”. In 2010, the Japanese episcopal conference announced that it would suspend the activities of the movement in Japan for five years. However, Pope Benedict XVI refused the request from four Japanese bishops on December 13 in Rome, saying that a delegate would be sent to see the situation speaking to both clergy and laity alike.[47] The Takamatsu Redemptoris Mater seminary was relocated to Rome in 2009. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neocatechumenal_way

I must say, this is troubling. Very troubling.

This kind of thought from the NCW adherents is quite troubling. From the comments in the rorate-caeli link.

The Neocatechumenal Way at the Vatican will ensure that you so-called Latin Lovers will soon go to where you belong - a footnote in the history of the Church.

The Neocatechumenal Way at the Vatican will ensure that very soon Pope Benedict XVI will celebrate liturgy according to Our Rite - and it's not a Roman Rite but a Universal Ecumenical Rite for the selected ones.

I honestly hope that you Latin Lovers will join us before it is too late.
Code:
Remember that Blessed John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI have already celebrated our Rite. But your Rite has been concealed and will not re-surface. No Pope will repeat past mistakes.

I doubt whether you Latin Lovers will show this comment. In any case, WE WON!!!
