Neon lights Sto Niño statue

Hello, just a question… We have a Sto. Niño statue here enclosed with a mirror and inside is a neon light. We just wondered why after like 23 years it still last, the one time we turned it off is when we moved in to another house. Whenever there’s a brownout, we just look at it to see if the light is on. I search about it and it says they last for about 8 to 15 years. It’s just amazing… my mother’s friend have one also and is still lighting up, I’ve no idea how long. What do you think?

if I understand how a neon light works, it is a gas enclosed in a glass tube, with an electrical switch to turn it on and off, which heats the neon and makes it glow. as long as the tube and seal are intact, the gas has not escaped, and the switch works, the light should work, right? possibly if it has not been moved around a lot that kept it safe.

A fire station somewhere has an incandescent bulb that’s been burning steading for over 100 years.
