NBC and Fox and other networks will follow their lead.
I hope this concerns you as much as it does me. The condom companies say their purpose in airing their ads is to help stop the spread of disease. So, why do their ads promote products like “Warm Sensations” and “Twisted Pleasure”?

Don’t be fooled by their double-speak. If the networks decide to break their self-imposed policy of not airing condom ads, we’ll soon have Church & Dwight’s “Trojan Man” ads bombarding our children at every turn.

You can expect that these ads will be aired repeatedly, especially during sporting events.

The networks and condom companies don’t really care about what they advertise when our children are watching television. They want to make money! That’s why one company president said, “…we could quadruple this business.” Does that sound like a company that has our children’s best interest in mind?

Do you want the networks to start airing condom ads all hours of the day? Once condom companies get their foot in the door, it’s only a matter of time before the ads will get more and more graphic.

Please send an email message to the six major networks that use public-owned airwaves. Let them know you want them to reject any offers to air condom ads on network television.

Many of you have done this, and it is very helpful.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse…just try to watch the evening news with kids in the room and dodge the assault by erectile dysfunction ads and updates on Michael Jackson’s nefarious activities.

It is becomming less and less desirable to watch TV at all. I think that it is really an abuse to the public to do this. When will they learn?

TV…going down the drain? Never! Well, it sounds like one more reason to not watch TV. I’ll tack it on to my list of reasons that I don’t watch The OC, Boston Legal, and the like. They are all degrading. They are fixated on sex and superficiality. Save me please!!!

But, I thought they already did air condom ads at that time. Then again, I don’t watch that much TV.

My family rarely watches TV as it is. Now we’ll be watching it even less.

I don’t want my 4-year old daughter and 12-year old son seeing condom commercials on TV. We don’t watch primetime TV in the first place but this would probably push me to start watching more “TiVo’d” shows so that I can skip over the commercials.

Buffalo,

I get e-mails from american family association too. I think they do great work, but this email alert about the condoms i thought was very ironic. Of course I’m against the condom ads, but I find it interesting that this evangelical Protestant group would act so shocked that condoms are going to be advertised on TV-- after all, the Catholic Church is the only church with the guts to still say that contraception is immoral. I can’t speak for all the thousands of evangelical sects, but as a whole, evangelicals do not see any moral problem with contraception within marriage. so why does AFA care about condom ads on tv? They say they dont want their kids exposed to them, but I bet they can find them in their parents bedroom. I say don’t be a hypocrite. anyway, thats my 2 cents.

What really sets my teeth on edge is the ad for the latest birth control pill (Ortho-something, but I think alot of them have the prefix “ortho” in them.). It’s the one with the song “Theeeereee sheeeeee gooooooeeees.” and has women doing ballet, riding horses, etc. I wanna finish the song:

Theeeereee sheeeeee gooooooeeees.
Straaaiiiiggghhht to Helllllllll!

Anyone know the one I’m talking about?

Scott

As if the ED commercials aren’t enough. I guess the TV will continue to stay offf!!!

Yes it’s disgusting. Frankly the word “Ortho” sounds like fertilizer to this farm kid. Visions of ingesting fertilizer…

Don’t you long for the days when they didnt’ even call toilet paper toilet paper? And when we didn’t have to know about every female function in detail? It was so much nicer. I find it embarrassing to be in mixed company watching TV between the erectile disfunction ads and the feminine products. Yuck!

Brace yourself for in two years there will no longer be commercials to skip over. The condom advertising will be embedded in the show itself.

I think you are being a little dramatic, I think it will take at least 10 years before you see product placement in shows for condoms. Regardless, what is the difference. Have you ever taken your child into a supermarket, gas station or pharmacy? There are condoms there clearly within eye sight.

The AFA has more guts than 90% of the priests and they do more to reform the culture to Christianity than any Catholic organization.

I support them 100%. If only Catholics as a whole would do what this group does.

Also, you cannot lump AFA and Focus on the Family into all other Protestants. Both group have faced significant non-support from church leaders. They do their work on their own and God has blessed it - filling in where church leaders with no backbone and little faith have failed society.

I guess we should give up and embrace paganism. The road is easy…

You have to take your child down that aisle.

Any Christian that thinks this is the impetus for turing off the TV is doing a good thing - but is WAY behind the curve. Christians should not be watching the network news or primetime garbage. I cannot think of a single program that doesn’t revolve around sex.

Brad, I agree that AFA does great things for our culture. They have guts, I agree. I don’t know about the whole “they do more than 90% of priests” thing; I suppose that most priests, just like most Protestant ministers would not be as gutsy as AFA. But that has nothing to do with the denomination. The Catholics have Fr Frank Pavone, the most gutsy pro-life advocate I’ve ever seen. Anyway, my only point was that it’s ironic that conservative Protestants (at least from my experiences) give the Catholic Church a hard time about the contraception “ban”, but then they get all up in arms when a condom ad is on tv. If they think contraception is OK in marriage, why are they surprised that its on tv? They’re part of the market! This does not take away from the tons of other great work that AFA does, I support them all the way, even in this condom ad thing. But I just find it ironic that they fail to see that contraception is evil, even within marriage. it seems the only reason they oppose the condom ads is because they are sexually suggestive. again, I still support their efforts to keep the ads off tv, but for more complex reasons. ok i’m done rambling.

I’m not so sure whether turning your TV of is going to prevent your children to know about contraceptives. At least not here in Belgium or in The Netherlands. TV Adds for contraceptives are being broadcasted here for some time now. You can find these adds in almost every otherwise decent magazine as well. Sex shops are widely spread and seen as quite common. Drug stores sell condoms and pills at very low prices. Train stations and other public places have adds on their walls promoting preservatives “in the name of health”. Public schools and some Catholic schools have condom vending maschines. Tilburg, in The Netherlands, has a new public vending maschine, but this fellow doesn’t sell cans of coke or beer. No, this one sells vibrators, sexy lingerie, etc. “for the lonely woman in need”.
I remember my last year in highschool (Catholic school). We got a visit from the “Aids prevention team” (we called it “the aids bus”). They told us the basics about STD’s and contraceptives, and they put some wooden penises on the desk and learned us how to use a condom the right way -go figure!

It seems to me that some regions in Central Europe and our Church are having a divorce. This “development” is very sad to say the least
