Never been to confession before

Also I just want to say that I did not mean for my previous post to sound judgey (if that’s a word?). I myself was a fallen away Catholic that got married in a courthouse and then had to go through this entire process and it was very rewarding and I think it is fantastic that you want this for yourself and your bride.

oh hehe I understand and didn’t take it in a negative way. I have only taken communion once by mistake because I didn’t know at the time what it meant and why I wasn’t supposed to take it. Before i got my wife here and before we got married i went to the Philippines to visit her. She took me to this church called “kamay ni Jesus” (hands of Jesus) catholic church. Which is a really famous church there that has a huge statue of Jesus (similar to the one in Brazil) and we went to mass there. I had told her that i was catholic but didn’t tell her that i hadn’t had first communion since i didn’t even know what that was. So she thinking that i had grown up knowing these things had me go up to the priest. She followed behind me. The priest gave me the Eucharist and i held ot and went back to my seat. The priest was furious and then denied her the Eucharist. She came back and said to me “you’re supposed to eat it” i then quickly pit it in my mouth. Later i explained my situation and then cried for i felt so bad about what i did. I haven’t taken communion since. I just stay seated when everyone goes.

Well since it was a complete accident then your culpability made it so it was not a mortal sin at all. It was probably quite embarrassing though so I feel for ya! The priest did the right thing in being upset however because many satanic cults and whatnot try to take hosts and use them in their weird cult worship services so priests have to be very careful when they see someone not immediately eat the host. Obviously you weren’t going to do that lol but he was probably just being careful.

Yes, you must get your marriage blessed in the Catholic Church before you go to confession. Or you could abstain from sexual relations until you do get it validated in the Church if you want to go to confession as soon as possible.

Not sure about this one. Why must he wait to go to confession?

On second thought, just read some of the other posts…makes sense to see your local priest for guidance.

I am not sure that the OP has to have his marriage blessed in order to go to Confession. I think a priest would have to answer this one, given the following Ask an Apologist question:

Of course, it would be best to talk to a priest about the whole situation so you have a more comprehensive plan for coming fully into the church. Check out RCIA classes at your local church. They should be able to help you out with everything you need

I, too, wasn’t confirmed until I was about 24 years old (although I was baptized, had my first Confession and Communion), so this situation is not uncommon.

When people say “blessed” they mean convalidated. Not just a blessing (just to be clear). A Catholic -in order to be truly married - needs to be married within the rite of the Catholic Church (or with dispensation to get married otherwise). When such has happened though (civil marriage -which can need to be confessed by the way) the marriage can become a Sacrament.

A person cannot be “living as husband and wife” (when they are not) and receive the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion - for they are not yet married. So this needs to be attended to quickly.

A couple who are “living as husband and wife” but who are not yet married - that is where the difficulty lies (and also the other aspects already mentioned).

Some things need though to get sorted out first…start the ball rolling and go see your Priest – lay everything on the table. The “civil marriage” --etc. You need “on the ground” guidance.

The Priest can guide you in what you and she need to do now - and get things sorted out so you and she may receive the Sacraments (Confession, Holy Communion and then Marriage). They are as you know of high importance- and you do well to deeply long for them all).
