In 1991, I lost my son of 10 days because of a malformed heart. He died during open heart surgery. I had him cremated and never had a funeral as I did not want to let go of the small piece I still had of him. Is it a sin to keep his ashes in my closet? I am feeling guilty lately and I feel like my house is cursed for various reasons. My friend feels it is because I never buried my son’s ashes. Can I go to a priest after all this time and ask for a burial?

Thank You

Of course you can go to a Priest and ask for burial for your son.
Actually that is the proper way to lay to rest. God bless you and I will say a prayer for you.
(I personally wouldn’t put too much credence on what your friend is saying though.)

We have my husband’s mother’s ashes at our house (8 years now). In the future, when my father-in-law passes, we’ll bury them together. I don’t see why it would be a sin, but since you are having these feelings about it, why not go and talk to a priest.

Your son is with God and you will be with them both one day. Give your son a proper burial and tell him good bye for just a little while. For there will come a time when the trump shall sound and we all will be changed, there will be no more shedding of tears.

May the Lord bless you and keep you and let His light shine on you. In the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
