So at mass the other day I found this “Never Fail Novena” in the pew. I’ll post it at the bottom of this entry. To me this reaks of superstition, much like an email chain letter. I know that everything you read on the internet is 100% true, so I tried to do some research but didn’t find much on it. So I need your help. Does anyone here know anything about this? Origins? ect? Or is there anyone here who can witness to this prayer. And if it is true that it never fails, is it an affective means to winning the lottery. (one of the questions I asked is not serious, which one, I will leave to you to guess).

Thanks yins guys,
God Bless,
Nate

Never Fail Novena

**May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be praised forever.
Sacred Heart of Jesus: Please hear our prayers.
Mary, Mother of Jesus: Pray for us
St. Jude, Worker of Miracles: Pray for us

After saying the above prayer, make your request and say nine (9) “Hail Mary” Prayers.
Say this prayer in church for nine (9) consecutive days and leave two (2) copies of the novena in church each day.

Request will be granted on the 8th or 9th day. THIS NOVENA HAS NEVER FAILED.**

When I see things like this, I throw them away.

There should be a policy in our parishes not to post or leave any spiritual material without the permission of the pastor. He is responsible for our spiritual guidance, and when (albeit well-meaning) people leave stuff like this around it makes his job more difficult, because some people will assume that if they find something in church it is without error.

My pastor was saying the other day that every day he has to gather up and remove all the questionable stuff people have left for others to read.

Wait, so I’m not gonna win the lottery?

No seriously. That was my gut feeling on the whole thing. Thanks for the responses.

If you do leave them in church please print them on one side of 8 1/2 x 11 paper and don’t fold it. I am in charge of the pamphlet rack and they provide me an unlimited supply of printer paper. 😃

Whoose to say a Novena is like a chain letter. It is a novena and it is the faith of the person praying it that is pleasing to Our Lord and Our Heavenly Mother.

I see them in the Church and obviously someone is in deep need of spiritual help. Nothing superstitious about it. Also there are many novenas that say will never fail. Of course the answer may not be what the faithful wishes.

When I see the words “Never been known to fail”…the big fat red flag goes up. You are presuming on God’s will with statements like that.

While in college, I worked as a janitor at a local Catholic parish. Like others, one of my jobs was to pick up similar novenas that had been left in the pews…along with the daily delivery of Jack Chick pamphlets that were left there by somebody or another.

I do. The prayer is itself is good. The content added to the message before the prayer is exactly like that of the Chain letter.

It is like in a chain letter - why each day…why don’t print out 1000 of them and leave it there…whoever wants it, gets it…no need to make “2 copies and leave a the church each day”.
read this and forward to 5 people, etc…

I have seen similar ones in newspapers that say that you have to promise to publish it in the paper. I never had much regard for that either. It sounds like a money-making opportunity for the newspaper, since the ads are not cheap. I just pray ordinary novenas that have no “chain letter” or newspaper publication attached to them.

I have deleted many e-mail messages that show a prayer, and then tell you not to break the chain, to send it to a certain amount of other people within ten minutes, and then to watch and see what happens on the fourth day.

This is superstition and is not how God answers prayer.

With each additional post, I watch my dreams of winning millions of dollars, fade to black.

Man speaking to God: “Is it true, Lord, that to You a million years are like a second?”

God: “That’s right.”

Man: “Is it also true that to You a million dollars are as a penny?”

God: “Yes, that’s true.”

Man: “Then would you mind giving me a million dollars?”

God: “In a second.”

And if you are going to leave copies in the church they should be hand written. Otherwise the belssing goes to the Xerox machine. 😃

A man prays and prays to win the lottery millions, but never wins. One day he asks God why his prayers are not answered. God tells him, “Give me a hand, son. Buy a ticket.”

In response to the rude people making the stupid comments, you must not be a Catholic or should I say a practicing Catholic if you do not know what a Novena is. Secondly you do not pray for cash, sorry you will need to get a job!
Practicing Catholics pray Novenas in there hour of need, for loved ones that are sick, things that matter. Your jokes are not funny and to the first post, don’t read up about Novenas on the internet, read your bible, go to mass, talk to your priest. You are not funny at all!
I have prayed Novenas many times and with sincerity and my prayers have always been answered. You must have faith, and believe in it, otherwise it does not count…
I am a very fun person and I like jokes, but you never joke about religion, I guess you just do not know any better and were brought up that way. Very Sad.

I don’t like this much. It is a form of chain-letter.
Sounds like a chain letter to me…novenas are in the church themselves and no novena asks that you leave a copy or copies behind.
God bless
🙂

I agree. Religion isn’t something to joke about. Either you are serious about this or you aren’t. Sounds more liely you aren’t. Please unless you are serious about this do not post here.

Respect is given to God here. Not snarky jokes.

Respectfully Yours
