Sounds like a chain letter to me…novenas are in the church themselves and no novena asks that you leave a copy or copies behind.
God bless
🙂
Yeah, and I also don’t like the sound of ‘it never fails’. It sounds too much like that name-it-claim-it Prosperity Gospel junk some Protestants promote. But they have an excuse, they are Protestant.

Novenas can be a very powerful devotion, whether to a Saint or Angel, Mother Mary or Christ Himself, but they are not bits of magic spells where you do A and then get B. There are many devotions that do carry specific promises, but they are not worldly promises, they are promises for grace or special blessings (i.e. Mother Mary’s promise that whoever dies wearing a Brown Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire or St. Michael’s promise that whoever prays the Chaplet of St. Michael frequently will receive special intercessions and protection from the Angels).

EDIT: I know that connected to devotions and novenas to St. Jude is the idea that, if your prayers are answered, one should somehow publicly pronounce their praise and thanks to St. Jude (i.e. taking out an ad in the paper or something similar).

There are certain prayers that said properly ‘never fail’ in the sense that they will be heard if you are in a state of grace, but the answer after the hearing may not be what you want it to be, however good it is. 🙂

I know this thread is several years old, however I had to share my experience with the “Never Fail Novena”. I had applied for a job at IBM and was given an interview for the position I applied for. I didn’t feel that I had done that well in my interview, and when I arrived home I was perusing the local want ads in my newspaper when I ran across the “Never Fail Novena”. It said it had never been known to fail and publication must be promised. Since I thought I did poorly in my interview, I thought I would give it a try. After I had completed what was requested of me, I received a call offering me a job at IBM. That was 27 years ago and 19 layoffs ago and I am still employed at IBM, a job I truly love.

Fast forward 26 years after I had used the “Never Fail Novena” and I somehow managed to lose/misplace a large sum of money in my house. I spent weeks looking everywhere; even going so far to remove furniture from rooms and ripping up the wall to wall carpet, all to no avail. One of the last places I looked was in a desk drawer in my computer room, where I found a yellow, tattered piece of newspaper which turned out to be the “Never Fail Novena”. This is the first time I can recall seeing this newspaper clipping in the past 27 years. I was out of places to search, so I gave it another try. After all, what did I have to lose? After I completed the instructions in the prayer, approximately a week later it worked again. I was looking for my birth certificate so I could get an Enhanced Driver’s License and found the money in a drawer which I was sure I had checked before. To me, both of these events were miracles and I definitely attribute them to the Novena. I have since laminated the newspaper clipping to prevent further deterioration of the paper. I want to keep the rest of my life.

I’m not sure why so many people are so skeptical when it is such an easy prayer to recite and what do you have to lose? As for using it to win the lottery, I don’t think it would work because gambling is a sin, isn’t it, since it involves the “love of money”? Also, I don’t play the lottery since I once read a statement that the lotteries are a tax on stupid people. I agree with that statement and haven’t played the lottery since. I also have a friend who won $19 million dollars and referred to his winnings as a curse. He became very fearful that family members, financial advisers and friends were trying to bilk him out of his winnings. He isn’t happy, like you might think.

I will try the Novena again if I desperately need it. I don’t want to start using it for trivial things, as I believe it is a very powerful prayer and shouldn’t be abused. I hope everyone opens their minds and try it if you are in desperate need of something. Here is the exact verbiage of the Novena I have in my possession:

NEVER FAIL NOVENA

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be adored, glorified, loved and preserved throughout the world now and forever.

Oh Sacred Heart of Jesus, pray for us.

St. Jude, worker of miracles, pray for us.

St. Jude, helper of the helpless, pray for us.

Say this prayer nine (9) times a day. By the eighth day your prayer will be answered. It has never been known to fail. Publication must be promised.

Well this post is the publication that I promised, so I have fulfilled my promise. If you are in desperate times, give it a try. It is free and I personally have never known it to fail in the two times that I have used it.

By the way, I’m a Presbyterian and it still worked, so I guess it’s a universal prayer regardless of your religion.

Thank you for your time and I hope it helps someone,
MR IBM

I prayed for a million dollars and got it. God however, gave it to me paycheck by paycheck, over many years.

When I was young, I prayed to be surrounded by pretty girls. God gave me all daughters.

Our Church does a novena to St. Jude with benediction of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday night. The text is here. I have been assisting the deacon as a server and over the period of many months, have heard many people tell the deacon and myself how powerful a novena is. Time after time they come in sad and you can tell they feel alone. Then, after showing up at the novena for eight or nine weeks, they come in exuberant and say, “You’ll never guess what happened!”

In response to the rude people making the stupid comments, you must not be a Catholic or should I say a practicing Catholic if you do not know what a Novena is. Secondly you do not pray for cash, sorry you will need to get a job!
Practicing Catholics pray Novenas in there hour of need, for loved ones that are sick, things that matter. Your jokes are not funny and to the first post, don’t read up about Novenas on the internet, read your bible, go to mass, talk to your priest. You are not funny at all!
I have prayed Novenas many times and with sincerity and my prayers have always been answered. You must have faith, and believe in it, otherwise it does not count…
I am a very fun person and I like jokes, but you never joke about religion, I guess you just do not know any better and were brought up that way. Very Sad.
I completely agree with you but would like to add to those promoting the Novena please do not include the quote ‘never been known to fail’. If you have had all your requests met by saying this prayer I am happy for you . However it is devastating for many who are afflicted with serious medical conditions when they fervently and soulfully pray the Novena and do not have their prayers answered. It takes already fragile souls and crushes them into the depths of despair causing their pain and anguish to be even more damaging to their already fragile existence. There is nothing funny at all of people that are truly suffering and are truly hopeless in their situation.
