hello all… i just never feel at peace these days…being 21, grad school apps, leaving al my friends behind, feeling like god doesn’t exist anymore,…i just don’t feel at peace and just want to end my life…i’m not suicidial but i pray for something to kill me to end this suffering.
and why are all the good women taken? it seems like the only ones are crazy or sluts…just saying.
i just don’t feel god knows me…i feel he made a mistake.
i’m just done of this everyday grind and only know it gets harder and harder after college
any advice?i’m desperate.
Can you connect with other young people, say, at the Newman Center at your college?
That’s a great way to get some support with new friends and also get back with your faith. In one place I lived, they had free spaghetti dinners, once a week for students! They had trips, I think maybe retreats, all kinds of stuff for students. Later, when I wasn’t a student, I was secretly envious of not being able to participate in all that good stuff!
Try it, it might help you feel better to get a homecooked meal and some companionship with your peers.
Do you have time for any clubs on campus? Try to make some friends, have a social aspect, since the loneliness is seeming to drive this. Young people often like to be around other people their age, peers. It’s quite normal.
Do you have any hobbies? I got really lonely over the summer. I teach, and summer we have off. So, I got into chess with the guys downtown. Now, I haven’t played almost at all, but for a time, the social and mental stimulation was quite helpful.
At colleges, they are often LOADED with events…movies…often free movies! Once, I went to Cape Cod…for free! The Biology Club paid for everything down to the hotel!
Now, it’s all coming out of what you are already paying. Why not take advantage of some of these services, clubs, groups, events? What’s on campus?
Campus is one of the best places to meet women, in my opinion. Well, it’s loaded with all kinds, different majors, mostly around your age.
When you get my age, going back to college isn’t as helpful (I’m 50).
You will probably never have an opportunity as good as this for meeting people. I invite you to look about campus with an open mind and heart.
At first, don’t try even for love or romance. Just shoot for friendship. Go to “ice breakers”, all those get togethers…dances.
Can you also keep in touch with your old friends at least by FaceBook, Skype, e-mail?
I believe there are still some good women around, but admittedly, it can be quite a search. Some say they are worth the wait, though.
Now, college generally also has counselors. While you say you aren’t “suicidal”, you do sound like you could be depressed, given you said you no longer wish to live. On campus, there should be a counseling center, often free to students. Why not go there and talk to someone? They also know what’s available insofar as campus activities and maybe can recommend something for you.
I don’t think you need to do this alone. Also, they sometimes have, in addition to individual counseling opportunities for students, group counseling. I’ve actually received both, as a student, myself. I found both helpful in different ways.
I didn’t have to pay anything for either.
If this depression continues, you might need medication, even if it’s only just temporary, until you get over this “hump”. I used to take an antidepressant to get through Christmas, often just stopped it later in the year when the sun came back out! lol
I have a disability, have found it necessary to get back on the antidepressant. Without it, I’m sad all the time, probably hard to be around, truth be told. I would write posts similar to the one you just wrote.
Anyway, it’s not necessary to go through a lot of this, probably, not in this day and age, when so much help is available.
Well, hang in there. I suspect this stage will pass as you begin to make new friends and begin to see this place as home. In the meantime, why not consider trying a few things I mentioned, see where it leads. What do you have to lose?
