I will never ask someone who is suffering to smile, or for someone who is going through a severe depression to lie with their lips.

I believe it is okay for them to wear their anguish on their face, and its okay for them to feel and express it.

For inspiration , I invite you to Guideposts at Guideposts.org . If you need prayer , Ourprayer is always there. I have a toll free number , 1-800- need-him . I hope we can reach many people. In all things pray , take Him with you.
John 3:16 , NIV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son . Whoever believes in He
will not perish ,but have everlasting life .

God loves you , smile and pass it on.

Sometimes life gives you joy even during pain. It makes no sense sometimes. Photography helps reveal the truth. Can you see the real medicine ? They say laughter is like medicine. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

It’s okay to feel sad, and it’s okay to cry.
You don’t need to stuff your emotions.
And sometimes you’re at that point where you can’t lift up your eyes to the joy of life.
But then you also have to beware of making your suffering into an identity (“I won’t be happy again until…”) and refusing to see the blessings you have or the beauty of the world.

I agree. A lot of people have some VERY HEAVY burdens to carry as a result of tragedies, sorrows, disappointments, etc. in their lives and telling them to “smile” isn’t going to help them much. In fact, it strikes me as a bit condescending and dismissive.

How so?
I acknowledged some people might not yet be at the stage of being able to see anything good in life, but when they do get to that point, then they should try to see the beauty in life.

Fair enough, but it’s a helluva lot harder for some than others to get to that point. And sadly some people don’t (or more likely, can’t) get there at all.

Hmm… don’t know about that smiling thing. Usually wear a somber grim expression of seriousness.
