Never Rained befor Noah?

They interperetthe bible as Sola Scriptura.

I was wondering if the rain thing influenced a certain doctrine or teaching, or if its just a literalist fundamentalist trump card they use.

Preaching in their church is not of as much importance as Sunday school classes and singing, along with fellowship. Their views on some moral issues confuse me with their belief of Sola Scriptura. Such as contraception and the death penalty.

Are they aware of the abortificient properties of bc pills? If they are, do they still believe that life begins at conception?

I also want to try and homeschool my children and his parents mainly his mother seem against it.

Do it. The homeschool associations and co-ops offer plenty of stuff for your kids. The stuff you keep them away from outweighs by far whatever “socializing” the might miss.

From Genesis Chapter 2:

5(F)Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, (G)for the LORD God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.
6But a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground.

I think you’ve got the wrong part of this sentence highlighted. for the LORD God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.

This would seem to indicate the reason there was no rain, was because no one had been sent to cultivate the ground. This was one of the curses of Adam, hence, we have rain.

The Church doesn’t require Catholics to treat the Bible as a science textbook on origins; the Bible is infallible in terms of what it teaches us in terms of salvation. Therefore ‘scientific’ inconsistencies with say, geology or evolutionary science, do not necessarily mean science has to be rejected (as creationists would have us believe).

I believe as science tells us, the universe is 13.8 billion years old and the Earth is 4.6 billion years old. The Earth has had oceans (and presumably rain) for at least 4 billion years and possibly longer. I know a lot of science and if no rain occured more than a few thousand years ago, the Earth would be as dead and lifeless as Mars. Therefore I would interpret the Noah story symbolically, in the sense the literal sense points to a deeper spiritual meaning (such as baptismal waters saving the elect from sin) rather than being overly worried as to whether the literal meaning conflicts with science. Catholic exegetes from Origen to Augustine to Raymond Brown know sometimes the literal text of the Bible has to be informed with a deeper method of interpretation if it doesn’t make sense in terms of science or history.

They believe in the young earth theory but the term they like to use is Revelationists. They believe in biblical authority. And that the earth is 6000 years old and that dinosaurs were created on the sixth day of creation. A website I found that explains what they are talking about is answersingenesis.com.

I don’t believe that they know birth control can be abortificients.
We have had some controversey with some people contracepting themselves permanatly so we tend to avoid the issue. They supported the contracepting act I did not. Yes they do believe life begins at conception. I would love to give them the facts but I don’t know how to do it with out offending.

Hi Mark, basically, they have made their interpretation of genesis equal to scripture itself. In their mind if you are arguing aganist young earth creationism, or question an universal flood you are going against scripture itself.

For example, it is from their childrens story books that they think Noah preached to the people while he was building tthe ark and that the people gave Noah a hard time during his preaching. But, scripture makes it plain that Noah did not even try to warn the people at all. The fact that the people in Noah’s day did not know anything about a coming disaster is proof that Noah did not waste time preaching to those who were unreachable while he was building the Ark. We know from 2 Peter 2:5 Noah was a preacher of righteousness, but I think that preaching occurred before he started building the ark, it is assumed that he preached while building the ark. But, God told him in Genesis 6 that they are wicked beyond belief. If Noah preached “repent or be destroyed by a flood” they would have understood or at least have knowledge that Noah is claiming there would be disaster coming" But, Jesus tells us that they had no such knowledge. It is assumed that Noah preached while building the Ark, but God did not tell him to preach a warning to them like in the case of Jonah. In fact, scripture does not even record that anyone gave him a hard time at all while he was building the ark. From Jesus himself, I have the impression that no one paid any attentsion to what Noah was doing, but were simply living their life in total ignorance of Noah at that time.
