Never received Sacrament of Reconciliation

Hello all I am new here, but I’ve always had a question on my sacraments. I was baptised at birth, received first communion at 8 yrs old, and was confirmed at 14 years old. For some reason, I never had the Sacrament of Reconciliation

What do I need to do? I don’t think there are classes required, should I just go to regular confession hours and talk to the priest?

Talk to a priest ASAP and do not receive communion until you go to confession. Catholics MUST go to confession and receive communion at least once a year. If they do not do so it is grave matter (condition for mortal sin).

Sacramentally speaking, there’s nothing special you need to do. Just go during the prescribed time and make your confession. All Catholics over the age of reason can go to confession. There is no fancy action tied to the Mass for it or anything.

First confession is a requirement before you can make your First Holy Communion…I believe it is mandatory.
 
When we did it when i was a kid, we had confession after first communion.

My nephews never did their first confessions before being confirmed either. And yes the priest knew about it. And no my sister doesn’t seem to be concerned about it, even after my discussions with her.

you should have done this before your first communion but if you were not properly instructed that is not your fault. you are very perceptive to understand you should do it now. Simply go to church the next time confessions are scheduled, tell the priest exactly what you said here, confess your sins, receive absolution, and enjoy the grace and peace of this sacrament.
 
There was a period of about ten years in my Archdiocese where kids made First Communion in the second grade and First Confession around the fourth or fifth grade—I think the reasoning was nothing is a mortal sin anymore, everything is venial and certainly no one as young as eight could have committed a mortal sin, blah, blah, blah.

Mercifully, this has been reversed but we still have a couple of renegade churches left with this philosophy.
 
i would say to talk to your priest ASAP and tell him what you said here and it would probally be better to make an appointment for a confession as it may take longer than a normal one mine did 🙂

Dear friend in Christ,

The Second most important reason to be a Catholic, is the availability of the "The Sacrament of Known Forgiveness."

Jn. ch. 20: 19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”(Picture) 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

Christ as our God and our Creator know what is best for us. Thus he isntitutated the Sacrament of Confession, were with complete assurance we can know that God has heard us and that God has forgiven us. Awesome! What a awesome God we have:D

Yes see a priest. Either call the rectory and set up an appointment, or just show up at Confession time.

Bless yourself in the name of “The father, The Son and the Holy Spirit” and say something like, Father, I have been Baptised, received Holy Communion and have been Confirmed, but I have yet to make my first Confession.

He will take it from there. He will extremely gentle and kind! He will of couese ask questions as to how this came about.

There is nothing particular or special about a person’s first confession. It’s just the first one that they make.
