I had no where else to place this, but I needed some Catholics on this genre of music and their thoughts on it. I myself am a fan of alot of music, and I am ecletic, but at this genre, even though I had liked it in the past, people have been telling me that it’s satanic music as well.

I listen mainly to the songs from Adiemus, which sings music in meaningless syllables to stress on the beauty of the natural human voice.

But how about the other music in the ‘new age’ genre?

My observation is that people lump all sorts of types of music as New Age, including World music (such as most Celtic), folk music, and some new classical music. As long as the lyrics are not questionable, I wouldn’t worry about it. Adiemus is mostly vocalizations (as far as I can tell), so you should be safe.

Even if the group refers to itself as New Age (which, apparently, Adiemus does), sometimes that’s because they can’t figure out what category of music they should fit into. I’d call their music Celtic or World.

God made the human voice – the most perfect and beautiful instrument – and vocalise (vocalizations without words) exhibits God’s creation.
