What do you think of the misuse of angels and archangels by the new age movement? Is using figures such as St. Michael our of context cultural appropriation?

I hate it and when they try to make Mary into some divine entity, I kind of die inside. The commentary they give is pretty terrible too.

I tried to find information about the Archangels (Michael, Gabriel, Raphael), and found a ton of new age crap that was saying all these blasphemous things, and not talking about the abramhmic religions at all

I don’t think it’s the Holy angels they get access to this way. It is a distorted offensive reflexion of them created by an envying spirit.
Just because something is spiritual does not mean is Divine. We are small when we are alone. And New Age basically enhances our ego and our capacities that we may have…alone.
When we are alone we are an easy prey.

This !

This new age mentality is super prevalent in my field (massage therapy). There are so many places out there now offering guided meditation to meet the archangels or medium channeling to talk to the Holy Spirit etc…oh I’m sure it’s a spirit they’re channeling but I doubt it’s holy!

Spirits and beings called by other names is a real problem for those who don’t know the background of all this. New Age is a repackaging of what was called the Occult. A few new twists are added to make it seem brand new. It’s not. I have some books and have read catalogs describing other books. The New Age is just picking and choosing ideas from decades old publications. The trap is believing that spirits, or other beings, whatever they’re called, can help you. That’s false. Don’t fall for it.

Years ago, I was at a meeting of a group I won’t name. There was a symbol above the door which I recognized and which is used by one religion. Why it was there was not explained. On a counter was a statue of Jesus and a statue of the Buddha. I listened to what the group was chanting. It sounded familiar. When I checked a reference, it turned out to be an ancient Tibetan chant.

I have read several books which were a mishmash of just about every belief ever held by anyone on the planet, all packaged up neatly under a guise of angel spirituality. Awful, misleading and downright dangerous imo.

One of the appeals of this is the acceptance of all human traits as fine, which is pandering to the relativity movement, where anything goes. When I think of them I think of the crowds of joyous people described by St Kowalska just before they fell over the edge into the pit.

What can be done to help such people?

Who knows how many lurkers there are here who would find out that this brand new thing called the New Age has been done before? Just let people know that it’s ultimately a demonic problem. And a spiritual problem when any of us believes that something that is not from God can help us.

It is definitely part of the “ dictatorship of relativism which does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely” of satisfying “the desires of one’s own ego.” Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger

I have spoken to one or two people about this and point out that although St Michael may be mentioned Our Lord Jesus is not. Central tenets from Christianity are also ignored or corrupted. I have even pointed out that the Truth was written 2000 yrs ago and needs no updating. All to no avail.

The popularity of these movements is in the ease of abiding by thier beliefs…which are so all-encompassing as to be worthless.

We must pray for them and trust in God.

No, it’s not cultural appropriation. It is DANGEROUS SACRELIGE.
The angels are immensely powerful beings, not decorations for Valentine’s cards, and certainly not to be used in conjunction with violating the First Commandment of the Decalogue.
Those who do so endanger their souls and imperil their lives. New Ageism is incredibly dangerous, and cries out to heaven for vengeance from above.

God be merciful,
Deacon Christopher

Heavenly father, we pray that you bind and cast down the demonic forces behind the occult and new age movements. Amen.

“Angel worship” has been going on for centuries and is one reason why the Church bans prayers using the name of any angel other than Michael, Gabriel and Raphael.
It’s my understanding that there are so-called “prayers to angels” that are actually demonic, going back hundreds of years.
Who cares about “cultural appropriation” - people should be more worried about the demonic influence/ losing their souls.

Fallen angels promote heretical doctrines.

1 Tim. 4:1
Now the Spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will turn away from the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and demonic instructions.

In Kabbalah studies there are also additional angels; Afriron and Kastimon.
