New Apostolic Church almost seems Mormon

A friend of mine left the Catholic Church and joined the New Apostolic Church. They almost seem like Mormons. Does anyone know anything about this group?

I was unaware of this group and have not ever met one of their followers. They do seem to share some of the concepts with Mormons; twelve apostles, etc. Interesting, but it must be a very small group?

Kinda looks like that may the only concept they have in common. That and when the were formed

Having been a Mormon, I would say no.

I noticed the New Apostolic Church lists the English evangelist Henry Drummond as one of its founders. I know that he was a follower of Edward Irving (the guy who is attributed as the founder of the Catholic Apostolic Church). The Irvingites were keen on modern prophecy, the perpetuity of the office of apostle, dividing the membership up into “the twelve tribes”, and (get this) baptizing and confirming (what they called “sealing”) the dead. What’s odd is that this group doesn’t have any obvious connection to Mormonism in general or Joseph Smith Jr. specifically, and it arose in England in the 1830’s practically at the same time as Mormonism was being founded in America.

Now, I can’t seem to find any specifics on the New Apostolic Church’s website about their beliefs concerning the dead or the 12 Tribes of Israel. They might be analogous to the RLDS Church in that they might have disavowed the aforementioned doctrines which are strikingly similar to some of Mormonism’s.
