ha yea. It baffles me how many people go through life writing **** books on atheism and don’t even bother to read Thomas Aquinas.
ha yea. It baffles me how many people criticize books on atheism when they obviously haven’t even read one.

Do you read the article? She definately made a stance that she was going to go ahead and disprove them, but then failed, fell flat on her face with nothing.
The author of the article is Mark Shea. It’s “he” not “she”. FYI! 😃

St. Thomas’s arguements are blown apart in a number of books on atheism, so…
That’s probably because they aren’t proofs but mere arguments. Proofs for the existence of God are absurd, but you can still try to make some admixturing of the intellect with the will with regards to your beliefs.

I’m very interested in the names of books you recommend for blowing apart Aquinas’ arguments. I’ve never been able to find ANY sound atheist answers to Aquinas, and I’d very much like to find some.

Peace and God bless!

Just to name the first one of the top of my head, the god delusion deals with his arguements. Any number of those “athiest books” will.

I would add that Michael Shermer addresses, in his book “How We Believe”, the following arguments for God from Aquinas (and others):
  • The Prime Mover Argument
  • First Cause Argument
  • Possibility and Necessity Argument
  • Perfection / Ontological Argument
  • Design / Teleological Argument

I’ve read his arguments against Aquinas, and they’re among the worst I’ve come across. I don’t think Dawkins understands Aquinas enough to counter his arguments, quite frankly. A classic example of this fact is how Dawkins tries to counter Aquinas’ “infinite regression of sequence” argument with a completely unrelated sort of regression. A rather embarrassing blunder, IMO.:o

Dawkins is definitely out as a philosopher, especially as a philosophical answer to Aquinas.

Any other ones?

I’ll take a look at this myself but first a question:

How will I know that if I or any of my Catholic friends ever post stuff from TIA on YouTube, we won’t get mauled my its massive atheist community?

To be honest, I get sick of the way they always put the “Four Horsemen” up on their pedestals there but atheists are far more educated and intellectually active than evangelical protestant fundamentalists. Anybody who has put something up that refutes them (at least on YouTube) seems to only need to wait for a few days and somebody’ll come up and provide some challenging counter arguments. Also, seeing that anti-atheist vids receive low star ratings is somewhat intimidating to me. -_-;;
