New Baronius Press Douay Rheims Imminent?

Hello,
After reading much discussion on this forum, I am excited to purchase a Douay-Rheims edition to compliment my RSV-CE bible. Using some recent bonus money from work, I have purchased a Baronius Press Second Printing edition from my local Catholic book store. However, I have been seeing some indications online that lead me to believe a new printing may be imminent:

Does anybody have any information in this regard? Before I open the shrink wrap on my new bible, I’d like to know if I should wait a month or two for a new edition.

The one your link takes me to, is the one I have, that I bought last year. The 2nd edition.
The “forthcoming titles” section on Baronius says nothing about another edition. But if you want to be totally certain, I would suggest emailing Baronius Press & asking them if another edition is forthcoming…

(By the bye, I love my Baronius!)

I checked out the website, and it looks like the Bible with the black leather cover is out-of-stock at this time (website says it will be available Feb.-Mar.). The burgundy leather cover Bible is currently available. It does not seem that a new edition is forthcoming. It just appears that the Bibles with the black leather cover are being reordered in the same edition.

I probably should have added a little more detail to my original post. Besides the Baronius site stating their bibles were out of stock, I saw a comment on another reseller’s site stating something like “out for new printing” or something similar. But, I can’t find that site now. I realize that even that particular statement could just mean that new bibles of the same edition are being ordered. (Also, I have e-mailed Baronius…they just haven’t gotten back to me in their quoted two-day period.)

Say, just because I want to try out the Douay Rheims doesn’t mean I’m a “traditionalist,” does it?? I’ve seen these two items paired up in a somewhat disparaging way on the web. But I admit that I am not very familiar with whatever this “traditionalist” movement is…

I joined the Catholic Church about eight years ago from another faith tradition. While I am probably more conservative than the average person, I don’t think I would have joined the Church without some of the Vatican II reforms in place.

But I’m getting off topic…thanks again for the feedback.

Today, I have received confirmation from Baronius Press that a third printing is currently in process:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email.

We are currently reprinting the standard size Bible as we have run out
of stock. When it is out in February-March it will be the latest edition

• Third Impression.

There have been some sites pointing out some “typos” in our Bible. These
mainly referred to the 1 edition (First Impression).

I think Douay Rheims Onlyists really are in fact supporters of Vulgate-Only and think that the Rheims is the best translation of that one. I don’t think this is invalid, after all it was the bible used by Catholics for 1200 years and still is the “official” bible of the Church.

I just got my Douay Rheims version today. I payed $120 Australian dollars for a Large copy because the smaller copies have text which is way too small. I’d like one of them to carry around, but my smaller Good News edition is good enough “carry around” Catholic bible…

I immediately read the first 8 chapters of the Rheims… I am a fan of the KJV so I knew this would be the catholic bible for me… but it is beautiful… Such a beautiful Text. It is very different to other bibles, and I think it makes things a lot more clearer. I think of all bibles, this one immediately jumped out to me as supportive of my sincere belief in “Theistic Evolution”.

Genesis 3:15 has enhanced my understanding of later events in the Luke gospel. So the female of the species would be the one which would make the decision to undertake the quest to destroy the serpent with the help of god, by birthing Christ for him.

If St Jerome translated it like this, one has to wonder if he had even more ancient manuscripts than we do today. Which of cause he probably did because he lived in earlier times… where as now we have a lot less.

An interesting thing I found is that the garden of eden(which isn’t even called that in this translation, Eden the word is translated in this version to “paradise”) is mentioned to have been the area between Ethiopia and Mesopotamia rather than just the later. This means something very interesting to me and this really eradicates the conflict between the bible and the current evidence we have of the earliest existing human beings which were possibly African. If the gestation period for the human race was this expansive fruitful area, Moses knew that the first human beings were somewhat African in origin. How did he know this?

That cannot be explained by science how he knew this information. This is a beautiful, stunning bible, which sheds light on the beautiful stunning bible it is a perfect translation of.

and mine is the 2005 Baronius Press one too… really worth every penny. ($120 Aussie dollars is about $70 american, I would have payed as much to get it imported from the States)

I was wondering if anybody who has gotten the Douay Rheims Bible from Baronius Press could tell me what they think of it? What makes it different than other Douay Rheims Bibles, and is there additional content such as how to pray the rosary like the New American Bible has? Thanks.

I think its the most beautiful Bible I have ever had. The leather is real leather (I mean, not just bonded, like most is now: actual leather!). The Bible has been redone from a late 19th century printing, which I had had for years, & it was slowly falling to pieces…Same pagination, but the type is so clear & crisp. Good quality paper, that you aren’t reading both sides of the paper at once, because somebody tried to save money on paper.
It does not have anything like the rosary, or other “specials”. What it does have, is 3 different papal encyclicals on the Scriptures…One, which I believe dates back quite a long while, is the best explantion of the inspiration of Scripture & why we should be reading & believeing Scripture that I have ever had.
There are a number of art prints in the center–black & white prints in the style of old “family Bibles”. Nicely done, too.
I have the leather over boards cover, I think it will probably last for a lifetime and then some. Great, great quality.
I can’t say enough good about this Bible. The main thing that I see in it, that is different from other Douays, (in addition to the above) is that the quality is much better. They have used the best of everything, to make this an heirlloom quality edition.

Now: On the down side, there are a few (very few) minor typos. I can’t remember the exact thing to tell you, but it is along the lines of the kind of thing that happens when you are typing…You know, when you hit the wrong key & get onw for one?? I only remember one being in the Bible text, somewhere in the wilds of the Old Testament. There are a very few like this though, in the notes. (I just fixed them with a sharp pencil, & I can’t even see them anymore…
I honestly believe that is the only negative to this Bible though. I can’t imagine a better choice for a Douay.

I agree with Zooey. I have the black flexcover edition…the quality is phenominal. It comes with two encyclicals on reading Scripture in the first few pages as well.
