Hi everyone. Hawaii is finally getting a Bishop. The acting Bishop that we had was great. Can everyone Pray for our new Bishop as he leads the biggest religious denomenation on our little island. I know we are miles apart but we are together in faith. His ordination and installation will be held on Thursday July 21. :gopray2:

You are talking about Bishop DiLorenzo. He is a very very nice man. And obviously has done great things in Scranton, Hawaii and now in Richmond. He’s also allowed Indult masses in Richmond.

Bishop DiLorenzo left us about a year ago and Most Rev. Thomas Gross was administrator. Father Clearence (Larry) Silva is becoming Bishop of Hawaii.

Bishop Silva is a man of great courage and faith. He is as composed a man as I have ever seen under very difficult circumstances. When he first became the pastor of our newly-formed parish (he was appointed by then Bishop of Oakland to help meld two parishes into one), he welcomed the travelling image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which was visiting our diocese at that time. It was a lot of work for him, but he accepted it with gratitude, and he consecrated our parish at that time to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He also was instrumental in bringing the Gabriel Project into our parish, which is a ministry to pregnant moms facing difficult circumstances. During respect life month one year, as our parish was short on funds, he paid for the respect life fliers out of his own pocket.

During the crisis of faith brought about through the revelations of priests abusing children, his steadiness and words of wisdom were a great comfort. He prayed the Mass in time of war on Sept. 11, 2001, and his steady faith was a consolation to us all.

One of the things I will miss the most is his wonderful speaking and singing voice.

You are truly blessed to have been given Bishop Silva, who was born in Hawaii, has family there, and loves the people of Hawaii as his own family. God bless you!

I have been lucky enough to be on Maui last week and the Big Island this week, the papers had some nice articles about Rev. Silva in them!

BTW - I went to a Church on each island for Mass, all l can say is WOW what enthusiasm, communion, and participation in the service! The congregation, choirs, and musical accompanyment are great here!

If any resident Hawaiians read this, I went to Annunication on the Big Island, and St. Therea in Kihei.

Aloha all you Hawaiians… Have you every heard of Dallas Carter. He is from the island of Honolulu (or is it Oahu???) Anyhow I saw him at a conference in my Diocese. He wasnt a scheduled speaker or anything but he stood up and challenged the speaker who was mis-representing the church on the issues of female ordination and contraception

Anyhow, Dallas was great in his challenges/responses and really swayed the crowd in understanding the Church’s real stance on those issues. Anyhow he seemed like a cool kid (he seemed younger than me!!!) I think he said he graduated from Steubenville but im guessing he was after my time.

Anyhow, you ever hear of him?

He emailed me some of his writings and I like his style of explaning things. I dont think he considers himself an apologist but I think he says he teaches some classes on the island of Honolulu (is that the same as Oahu???) I have been able to use his explanations in my own classes and I have been in good email communication with him. If any of you know him tell him I say hi and invite him to join the CA forum 🙂
