Aux Bishop Joseph Cistoni of Philadelphia.

Terry’s evaluation - first impression:
  1. " Jesus Christ must be at the center of all we do: all our prayers…all our thoughts…all our actions. Pope John Paul II, in his great encyclical on the Eucharist, reminded us that “The Church draws her life from the Eucharist.” And so, what I can tell you is that I will do everything possible to foster ever greater devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist, whether it be by encouraging greater attendance at Mass, more worthy reception of the Eucharist, or prayerful adoration in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament."

Oh yah: Strong belief in the real presence
Oh yah: Jesus Christ the center of all we do
  2. "I again call upon Mary, our Mother, Saint John Neumann and Saint Katharine Drexel to intercede for me to Jesus Christ our Lord that I may be a good and holy bishop, generous and kind to those in my care, faithful to the Word of God and the Magisterium, and always open to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In my daily prayer of intercession to God through Saint John Neumann, I pray: “Direct my first thoughts to the service of You and of others. Make my prayer ‘Your will be done,’ knowing that in your mercy and love, Your will for me is my sanctification.”
Oh Yah: Respect for the saints
Oh yah: Mary our Mother
Oh yah: “Your will be done”
  1. "When I first learned of my appointment, I visited the diocesan web site and found the New Bishop Prayer. I began to pray the prayer each day, morning and night, for myself, to ensure that your prayer may be answered in my service. Today, I pray with you: “Eternal God, shepherd and guide, in your mercy make me a shepherd, here in the Diocese of Saginaw, after your own heart, that I may walk in your ways and, with loving care, watch over your people. Make me a leader of vision and a teacher of truth. So may your Church”

Oh yah: A shepherd after You own heart
For now 4 stars out of 5 stars. Arch Bishop designate Carlson is a tough act to follow.

Teresa Tomeo, Ave Maria Radio/Catholic Connection host, would give him 6 stars out of 5 stars because he is an Italian American.

So far I am confident for some seminarians and new priests that I know for the Diocese of Saginaw that Arch Bishop’s good work will be continued.

Arch Bishop designate Carlson may yet get his “charismatic Catholic parish” but it will not be Michigan.

Although I am concerned because I have not liked Cardinal Rigali, I hope Bishop Designate Cistoni will be supportive of the work begun and not gradually dismantle
the good work begun in Saginaw, Mich.

Being in the Diocese of Lansing, I hope Bishop Cistoni is more publicly anti-abortion
than Cardinal Rigali is.

I will watch with great fear and hope as the new “Big 3” here in Michigan, Bishop Cistoni, Bishop Earl Boyea, ArchBishop Vigneron will reduce the influence of the Michigan Catholic Conference and be more strongly anti-abortion.

For me, the jury is still out on Bishop Boyea as I heard no comment about Notre Dame from him. Of course he has been busy with his duties and dealing with parish closings and new ordinations and of course Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Prayer: In spite of my sins, please God have your way in the lives of the Bishops, Cardinals and Archbishops of the US Catholic Church. Intervene mightily in their lives that they would be converted mightily and truly be transformed by the renewal of their minds for the sake of the aborted children and the salvation of my soul lest I endup in utter dispair over your absence from the Church. Please anew take your throne as the “head of the Church”, for the sake of your holy name.

Regards,
