This morning it was announced that the Holy Father has named Michael Owen Jackels as Bishop-elect of Wichita, KS. He had been serving as a priest in the Lincoln, NE diocese.
I’m new to Wichita and very excited to meet our new bishop. We have been without a bishop for quite a while, and there were a lot of things that have seemed to be “on hold”.
People in the Wichita diocese are very blessed - Fr. Jackels is a wonderful priest. Our family has known him since he was newly ordained. He will be a great bishop.
The Diocese of Lincoln has had 3 priests named as bishops in the past few years. We in this diocese have been truly blessed with our Bishop Bruskewitz and our many wonderful priests.
Best wishes to Bishop Jackels in his move to Wichita!
He looks quite young, and hopefully will be able to serve a long time. Wichita is quite a bit bigger than many people think, and will probably continue to grow under this new bishop.
