A friend of mine who knows someone in the ICEL says that the new translation of the breviary may be available in as soon as 18 months!!
Yikes. 18 months? Did you add an extra digit by mistake?A friend of mine who knows someone in the ICEL says that the new translation of the breviary may be available in as soon as 18 months!!
Huh?Yikes. 18 months? Did you add an extra digit by mistake?![]()
Yeah, if anything I thought you left off a zero, or grossly misspelled “years.”Huh?
That’s what I thought when I heard it from my friend! Although when you think about it, it’s not as much as you might think, because all the psalms are already done.Yeah, if anything I thought you left off a zero, or grossly misspelled “years.”![]()
I mean, I wish it were sooner.Huh?
Me too, but last estimate I heard was 10 years, so this is HUGE!I mean, I wish it were sooner.![]()
No, we are talking about the Ordinary Form breviary, currently in use by most priests, religious and lay people today. Are we speaking of the Roman Breviary, which is going to have the English translation as well or something else?
This one?
Oh, joy! They fixed the last lines of Ps. 27:4!That’s what I thought when I heard it from my friend! Although when you think about it, it’s not as much as you might think, because all the psalms are already done.

Thanks be to God. But 18 months? That’s rather short compared to everything else…Oh, joy! They fixed the last lines of Ps. 27:4!

Ok am I missing something? 18 months sound quite quick to me.
Last estimate I heard was 10 years, so this is HUGE!
The release of the NABRE and updated psalms makes an update to the LOTH much easier. Thanks be to God. But 18 months? That’s rather short compared to everything else…
Everything I’ve ever seen on the possibility of a new breviary - and I’m not at all sure that I believe the 18 month claim - is that, precisely due to the cost, the current 1975 version would be “grandfathered” in, and that no one would “have” to purchase a new revision unless they wanted to.Gonna have to cough up another $150 (more?) for the 4 volume set.
Oh well, it’s money well spent, and I’ll be able to use the old set for kindling…
