Here is my latest tactic against abortion at the abortion mill on Saturday mornings. If appeals to love, respect for life, Fear of God, etc. don’t have any effect, then I appeal to the mothers and fathers selfish interest in this way…

"You can never have a happy life by killing an innocent baby because “What ever a person sows, the same shall he reap. If you sow the violence, bloodshed, and cruelty of abortion that is what you will reap for the rest of your life, unless you turn to God. If you go thru with this abortion you will suffer tremendously in his life and in the next. Abortion is never a solution to your problems, it only adds to your problems. It is in your own best interest to get in your car and drive away.”

Any suggestions? What do you think?

Chris, While I wholeheartedly agree with you I doubt that line of reasoning will have any effect on someone who has created their own god. The language presupposes your interlocutor shares your Christian worldview and a belief in the afterlife which includes an accounting for all our words, thoughts and deeds. Whereas the reality is we have to carefully listen to understand where people are coming from and what ideas inform or have malformed their conscience in the first place.

“If you go through this abortion you will suffer tremendously in this life” is an argument which should be backed up with facts. Documentation about the number of emergency trips from a particular abortuary to the hospital as well as the number of lawsuits against a “doctor” for malpractice would be effective tools. Facts to show how the woman is putting her health, her life and her future family at risk may be more effective than moral arguments. Priests for Life website has an abundance of testimonies.

Above all, pray the rosary daily, do penance and put on the armour of Christ before going into battle. Ask family and friends, who can’t be on the front lines in front of the abortion mill, to pray the rosary or to spend this time in a chapel of Eucharistic adoration.

Chris,

i must say I admire your courage. There are no abortion clinics in my town (small pop.:2 500) but I can imagine it would not be easy for me to address people in the manner you do and certainly it can’t be easy for you either. God bless…

Your wording reminded me of WYD 1993. JP the Great was greated by the President and right wtihin the greeting I remember JP telling the president about the abortion views of the US. I don’t recall the exact words, but htey whrer to the effect of “If what you decide doe snot promote the sanctity of life, than all your endeavors will eventually fall to nothing.”

JP the Great: forever my papa!

Another thing your post reminded me is what my mother told me often: “On recolte ce que l’on seme.” ie; We harvest what we plant in our fields. If what you plant in your field is death (abortion), then death is what you will eventually harvest.

Keep up the fight and remember, you do not stand alone! Many of us are with you, including the one true Master: God.

I am very glad you like the quote in my sig., I came up with it myself. 🙂

if anyone famous said something similar, let me know and I’ll adjust it.

(I put it in foiur langauges of course; french: my native language
english: the language of business, latin: the language of the church, and italien: the language of the vatican)

:console: My niece has just had an abortion. God bless the little one. She had untreated toxiema with her first pregnancy, and nearly died. In itself this was tragic in this day and age. The next pregnancy miscarried. This pregnancy she went into heart failure as a direct result of kidney failure from the damage from the earlier toxiema. The doctor didnt realise her kidneys were as damaged as they were. Both she and the baby would of died if the pregnancy had of continued. She is broken hearted. Should she have died and left her little one without a mother. She was ten weeks pregnant.

I believe that God let this little one be sacrificed to let her know that her life is more fragile and she should look after herself. Maybe she will have more children if she is treated from the outset. It is God’s will and not for me to judge.

That is a very long argument with a Christian-religion foundation.

I’ve found that counselors have about 5-10 seconds to catch the interest of a woman, and possibly another 5-10 seconds to where she considers listening further.

Two points to consider:

Those women who are already showing in their pregnancy and thus are farther along, or those women who are going into the clinic alone, are much more open to literature based on the child. Plastic models, non-abortive and abortive pictures of children, “development calendars” and other baby-based materials really catch their interest.

Those women who are going into the clinic for a chemical abortion/first trimester abortion are more attracted to materials based on the woman.

Brochures outlining the risks of abortion as an invasive procedure, pictures of clinic “cleanliness” bios on the abortionist that includes info such as how many women he has killed (our local abortionist has killed several girls), patient-rights forms to have the abortionist sign, statistics by pro-abortion organizations showing the increase of depression and suicide, etc are going to be more effective.

A long-time counselor probably carries a little knapsack containing a variety of these materials. I prefer to carry an expandable notebook that is professional and clean and has all the tabs labeled to easily find what I need. You are talking about mere seconds to asses the woman’s needs, situation, safety and outlook.

If you are a female, make sure you always have backup when approaching a woman escorted by a male. They can become very aggressive, especially if they are forcing the woman to abort and she starts to look to you for assistance.

I have not found religious based arguments to ever be effective at the clinic.
