New catholic and confession

I’m a new Catholic and cannot begin RCIA at my parish until Fall. I have subscribed to catechismclass.com to begin religious instruction in the interim.
I know I cannot receive Communion, but can I go to confession? I told my Father i had never gone and I’m new and he said I should attend Mass and learn.
I have been doing a weekly examination of conscience and asking God to forgive me directly meanwhile. When I do confess, do I start from the beginning of life, or what?

not sure how you are a new Catholic if you have not yet been received into the Church through the Rites of Christian Initiation. Please make an appointment with the pastor of the parish you are joining immediately to discuss this, as it is a pastoral question. Let him direct you on how to proceed until the formal class begins. He will probably have some resources for you. meanwhile welcome home. If you were in my parish, you would begin your formal preparation now since we are year-rounders, and we would do our best to provide you spiritual and pastoral support as well as classes in doctrine and scripture all through the process. I say I’m Catholic because I was baptized Catholic, though I never made any other Sacraments. My Mom raised us Protestant, and now as an adult I headed back to the Catholic Church.

I’m glad to be back, I am a registered member of my Parish, but I cannot begin RCIA until Sept., so my dilemma and question surrounding confession remains.

welcome back, how blessed we are to have you. you do not properly need RCIA, as that is for the unbaptized or non-Catholics, but you need Confirmation class for adults to prepare for the sacraments. Like our parish, yours probably combines the two since all of the participants are essentially uncatechized. However you should confess as soon as possible, please see the pastor. a good practical guide and quick answer to a lot of your questions, including how to examine your conscience and approach confession, is from Liguori, Handbook for Today’s CAtholic. don’t feel alone until your class begins, please speak to someone.

yes, you confess all the mortal sins of your past life, and you tell the priest going in your position. you really need some help with preparation for this, and it is the pastor’s duty to see you get it. We are all praying for you.

You would most likely fall into the catagory of Candidate. Being already Baptized Catholic and raised as a Christian. Reconciliation should be available to you in short order. Speak with the pastor about your situation. You should be a “Fast Track” Candidate, how fast would depend on you specific background. If I were directing the RCIA or returning Catholic program at your parish. I would have you study the faith via your program, meet with you once a week or every other week. Reconciliation would take place in a month with Confirmation and First Holy Communion before Summer is over.
