New Catholic Bishops President Chided Biden, Pelosi on Abortion

Baltimore, MD – The nation’s Catholic bishops broke with precedent that normally sees the vice-president move up the ranks to become the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Instead, they went with the archbishop of New York, who has taken on pro-abortion politicians like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi.

Congratulations on his setting the example for how all Catholic Bishops need to address Catholic politicians who separate their faith from their actions.

Seems to me he has spoken out against the Arizona law. Condemning it as unconstitutional and paranoid. He should have read it. No one is against immigrants. Many, however; are against open borders and do not support illegal immigration.
We need reform of immigration, but we do NOT need to grant amnesty to illegal residents. We also should have the right to ask someone of their legal status if and when they have been detained for other illegal acts.

The Arizona law is not racist, nor anti Latino. It is supportive of the rule of law, without which we have chaos.

I wish the USCCB had done better, but from what I understand he is lauded as a conservative relative to the other candidates. Sad.

On immigration & the rule of law, would you support slavery when it was declared legal by the US Supreme Court?

Everyone agrees that borders must be controlled, but our current immigration laws are unacceptable.

As Catholics, & disciples of Jesus Christ, we must help find a compassionate & equitable way to do as Jesus taught us when He said;

“for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,” (MT 25:35)

“To blame them, stalk them, outlaw them, harass them, and consider them outsiders is unbiblical, inhumane, and un-American,” he charged.

Acknowledging the duty of every society to protect its borders, he said this must be done “justly, sanely and civilly.”

Why is it “Sad” to elect Archbishop Dolan, a staunch Pro-life Archbishop who challenges self proclaimed “catholic” public figures like Pelosi & Biden when they cause public scandal by supporting abortion?

All in all the election of Archbishop Dolan represents a victory for the pro-life cause, especially give the alternative, but the person who raised the issue of immigration was right to do so.

I have read his comments and found them contemptible. Comparing those who supported Arizona with the Ku Klux Klan and calling them mean-spirited and narrow minded is beyond the pale. It would bring a warning - or worse - from the administrators of this forum should any one of us use such uncharitable language. That these statements were made by an archbishop is simply staggering. I am pleased that an alternative to Bishop Kicanas was found. I will wait and see whether Archbishop Dolan turns out to be a better choice.

I don’t disagree with anything you have said. What is sad that we don’t have a leader who espouses conservative principles as well as moral ones. It is sad that he represents a “conservative” bishop at the same time he makes nonsense out of a reasonable response on the part of Arizona.
Look, I just got back from the Valley in Texas. While there for 3 days, we heard gunfire in Reynosa. Over 30,000 people have died in the drug wars along the border in the last 45 months. This is only one of many reasons why we need border control and if someone is stopped for a crime, asking if they are a US citizen should be permissible so we can send them right back instead of clogging our courts. We have enough criminals of our own without providing any sanctuary. I also strongly believe on the other hand, there ought to be a worker permit system that is streamlined and allows upstanding foreigners to work in areas commensurate with their skillset.

I’ll tell you one other thing…As a consulting engineer, it took me a bit of money and time to be allowed to work temporarilly in Canada. But I did it instead of crossing into Canada and working illegally. I expect the same when folks come here.

I am grateful that we have a leader opposed to abortion. (Why should I have to be grateful for that from a Catholic bishop?). But in other areas, I’m not happy to be compared to these groups because I believe immigrants should follow the law.

It is also a pain to work in Mexico, you need a work visa if only to make a sales call.

With regard to abortion. Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden can hold any view on the subject they wish to. The problem begins when they state that their pro-choice, or abortion on demand stances are in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church. It’s refreshing and encouraging to have a prelate openly challenge them on these statements, which are anything but consistent with the Church’s teachings.
