Jesus tell us to bless them that curse us, but what if someone curses you and you bless them but don’t really mean it? This receptionist at the doctors office smirked at me for my turning down a signature to get a med that she had stressed about for many weeks, which really is my choice, and when I walked out I said “God, bless that lady” but didn’t feel like saying it at all, isn’t a charitable act from an insincere place uncharitable?

You could have said you were sorry that you didn’t want the medication. Or just gotten it anyway if you could have afforded it.

It shouldn’t be very difficult to forgive someone for smirking at you. Especially if you realized that they were expecting something from you, and you then changed your mind. Whenever you feel like you’ve sincerely forgiven the smirk, say a prayer for yourself and her.

It’s tough! But to answer your question, what counts is not how you feel, but what you do. your feelings can be all over the place (although they can be brought more under control), but what you decide to do and do is totally under your control, and even tho you felt like doing something else, you instead performed a kind act towards someone who had not been nice to you.

A hint: sometimes I am tempted by my feelings, and then I treat them just as I do temptations, by praying for God’s grace. It took me a long time to learn that, so I always like to pass it on 🙂

You don’t have direct control over your feelings. But Jesus said to bless, and you blessed, just don’t indulge yourself in ruminating over it
